NADA values are over-inflated to begin with so paying anything more than NADA is very good for the dealer.

Scratch that dealer off your list and start again. He has to come down way too much for you to get a reasonable deal....

I agree, since you have cash why don't you give ebay a try.You can get a steal from folks that "gotta" get out of thier debt.

I just went to a local RV dealer "Fall RV Show." They had a nice used fiver I was interested in. They wanted almost twice NADA's average retail price for the fiver. Is this common? The dealer/owner said he couldn't go any lower.

Your experience is typical of RV shows.

Decide exactly what you want - and any variations of that.
(floor plans, etc.)

THEN - keep shopping! (elsewhere).

Thanks mynetdude. I wasn't in need of financing as I would have paid cash, but you are WAY right. I also had no trade in for them to worry about. I thought that would make me a desired buyer in a dealer's eyes. Guess not. I have saved for quite awhile for a fiver, so I don't want to make a stupid mistake.

You think like me, I'll have $20k in my hands in a week or so, I don't know if that is better than just getting $20k from the bank (for me its not better!)

You might be surprised, trade ins are better for dealers, they make more profit on used vehicles than they do on new vehicles.

You know the $20k from the bank at a low interest rate wouldn't be bad. If you took your $20k and found a higher interest investment that is secure in the current market you would be money ahead and when you made enough you could pull it out and pay the loan off when you were ready. But in the current economy good luck on good loan rates and investment rates.

If you like the trailer and it's in the right condition make an offer - when he counteroffers make your offer again and give him your phone number. Tell him to hurry because you're buying not shopping

Thank you all for your input. I may call the dealer back in a week and make an offer of the NADA value and see what happens. I will continue to search, however. I have been scouring Craig's List a lot. That's how I found my one ton truck.

I'm in the high-end watch business (sucks to be in luxury goods these days!) and we're always looking for good deals on quality pre-owned pieces. Often, we have to walk away from them when the owner starts "shopping" around for the best price; just turns into an auction, and isn't that what evil-Bay is for?

Why buy used when you can buy new? Have you checked the prices at RV Direct and RV Wholesalers? Bought our FW loaded for little money, saved alot, the trip to pick it up in Elkhart, IN was well worth it.
