Looked at web site for Agawa Canyon, train ride looks interesting.
Can you drive a car to the canyon, or is rail the only way??
How close can I find a campground, for a 41 foot class A, near the canyon??

Thanks, the Muffin Man.

Sault Ste. Marie KOA should be able to handle your rig. Can only see canyon by rail.

You can also park overnight at the Casino which is right beside the train station.
It is patrolled - safety should not be a concern. When are you thinking of going?
This fall - if so, I suspect the fall colours are past their peak by now. I would recommend reservations as this is a popular train trip.

We took the Agawa train trip back in the '70s. It was called the Black Bear Special then. The canyon is only accessible by train or hiking. The train leaves about 8 or 9 in the AM and returns about 4 or 5 PM. The train stops at the canyon for a couple hours. You can picnic, fish or loaf there. While you are there the engine is moved from the front to the back of the train for return trip to Sault Ste Marie. I think a box lunch is included. It is a nice relaxing trip.

Another must see item within walking distance of the Sault Ste Marie train station is the Bush pilot/Float plane museum. Lots of float planes on display, a good movie, forest fire fighting exhibits and other related displays.

It's an interesting trip in the winter, too. When we did that a lot of years ago, we stopped at the canyon only long enough for the locomotive to change ends for the trip back. Too cold & snowy to get off in the canyon. The train did stop on the way up to drop off skiers and on the way back to pick them up.

We took the train a few years back. We has a wonderful time. The train ride was great. There was a dining car and we had a nice lunch as well.

I'm from Texas and ya'll know we don't exaggerate, but those Agawa Canyon mosquitos were the biggest species I have ever seen. Even with that we plan on going back agan. Great time.
