If you are shopping for a motorhome, do the homework before you go looking, you should know more than the poor salesmen then. All I want when I'm looking is the salesman to do is show me where the motorhome is and open the door. after that go away, if I have questions I hunt him up and ask. I hate it when a salesmen is hovering around asking questions like how much are you going to put down? do you have a trade? make me an offer; and on and on and on.

That is the best answer I have seen so far. If someone passes on a Mh because the salesman could not answer a couple of questions he didn't want it anyway so in the end it made no difference.

We were looking at Camrys years ago with the assistance of a salesman who had obviously not been in the country long -- thick eastern bloc accent. I was asking basic questions about a group of program cars -- do they have anti-lock brakes, a 4-cylinder or a V6, etc. In answer to the question about the brakes, he said "anti-lock brakes, air brakes, whatever you want, we have." Describing the engines he said, "3-cylinder, 4-cylinder, whatever you want, we have." OK, I'll take one with a 3-cylinder and air brakes. He was, however, a very popular salesman at that dealership because he was such a nice guy.
What was really frightening to me when we bought new was that the technician designated to do our walk-through was uninformed on some details I knew. We were told you couldn't run both air conditioners (we're 30-amp), but I knew better and was polite about it. Everybody at the dealership seemed to think it was OK to run the slides in and out without starting the engine too. The owners manual states that the engine should be running. No wonder the battery was toast the day we picked it up.
I have a 40 ft. DP that I bought new and have owned for more than six years. If you ask me about the frame construction of my unit, I too would not have a clue. I can tell you how the slides work. You press one end of the rocker switch to go out and the opposite end to go in. But, then again, I was much more interested in buying what I wanted rather than " close to being serious" when I originally bought mine.
The salesman who sold me the unit did know a couple of very important things. He knew where the keys were and he knew where a dealer tag was so I could drive it. He also knew how to introduce me to the sales manager to give me the answer to my offer and he knew how to take my money when I paid for it. After six years of ownership, I have found no reason to know what the frame construction is and really could care less how the slides work as long as they go in and out.
I really wonder how the majority of people would stack up if the general public could just willy/nilly come by their job, observe, and then grade their performance on the internet? All of this anonymously and basically without recourse or response from the person being graded.

We went to DeMartini in Grass Valley to look at coaches. Tim, the salesman, opened a row of coaches for us to look at and said if we had any questions, he would be around. We finally looked him up to take one for a drive. No pressure, no intrusions. Allowed DW and I to discuss things privately... big in my book....Dennis

Get him fired? Are you for real? How many salesman out there would know how the slide mechanisms worked. How many customer's actually need to know how the slide mechanisms worked? I personally wanted to know how to take in the slides if they failed but couldn't care less how the mechanism works as if there was an issue of that magnitude I would take it in to be fixed like most RV owners would. He's a salesman not a mechanic!

I guess that is where the difference is between me and you. I really care about if I have hydraulic hoses or electric slides. Especially if you have a hose to blow while dry camping and there is hydraulic fluid all over the ground! Maybe it was your coach I bought because you didn't know you had a leaking hydraulic hose.
All I am saying is one thing. This experience did not leave my with a good feeling. The coach was very dirty and obviously neglected. And I repeat something I have said before. This is the very last time I will be the OP on a thread. Moderator, please close this thread before I lose it.
