I just installed a Fumoto valve on my 2008 Cummins 6.7l ISB. When I removed the old oil drain plug, I noticed that there is a magnet in the plug. Since the Fumoto is brass, there is no way to magnetize it. What have others done when they put in the Fumoto and will it be a problem without the magnet?

Also, when I went to change fuel/water seperator and when I started to take the old one off, fuel started to flow out. I thought it would only be a little, but it continued to flow out (at least a gallon) and did not stop so I tightened it back up. Am I doing something wrong? Also, will I have this same problem with the main fuel filter when I try to change that??

Get yourself a magnet and stick in on the bottom of the pan near the plug. Remove it when you change the oil, any shavings (if any) will come out with the oil change.

They make magnets that you can put on the oil filter. A little expensive though. I would think they would work better than the drain plug magnet.

Just make sure the valve doesn't stick below everything else.. It could ruin your day if hit by any stuff on the road..

I put one on my gasser but the oil pan was just above the axle out of the way.

Did the magnet on old plug ever catch anything? I personally think the magnets are only usefull when catching any shavings left in brand new engines. After several oil changes I doubt they do anything. The ones on my cars never caught any filings.

Love my Fumoto valves, no more oil all over frame and driveway.

Agree one has a major problem if they are finding shaving after the normal milling ridges wear off early in the life of an engine.

I would not sell ours for $133.33 if I could not buy another one just like it. The hose deal is awesome too. I have an old 2.5 gas can that lost the cap of and got all dirty which catches all of the oil in one pass so I just drive it up on blocks and start the draining and come back when the filter is cooled down.

I agree with the posters who believe a magnet would do little to correct the problems of ongoing metal shavings in an engine. However automobiles are man-made and except for the wife, I have found none to be perfect. The magnetic is there for the unexpected event, as a safety. We spend thousands on the vehicles and then have to think about spending $3.00. It gets more like Washington here every day.

I bought one and quit using it for two reasons:

1. It is the lowest thing on my undercarrage. It just hangs down there in mid air. It looks like it's inviting a road gator to knock it off the pan. My neurosis acting up again.

2. It does not drain the oil completely. Since the valve rises a bit off the floor of the pan, there is always a little bit of oil left in the pan when using but not fully removing the valve. Not much, but a little. Maybe it's got the worst dregs of the oil in it, undrained and ready to be reintroduced into the engine with the fresh oil. And a true neurotic won't let that be.
