Most traffic safety experts will tell you that speed differential is more of a contributing factor to accidents than actual speed levels. Having two classes of vehicles with different speed limits is just inviting trouble.
Now, if they would just catch on to the fact that most traffic is traveling safely at 70-75 MPH and put in some reasonable limits we would really have something. And while I'm on my soap box, I'll mention the ridiculous 45 MPH construction zone limits that go on mile after mile when there is no actual work being done.
My man you need to slow down and smell the coffee! Relax and enjoy yourself!
Why do you think the coffee smells better at 55mph? Many of our roads are designed to safely carry traffic at 65 to 75 mph. I can't recount the number of times I see a guy running along at 50 to 55 mph on a major road causing all kinds of traffic problems. The only thing worse is the guy doing 50 in the left lane. And, oh, by the way, I haven't had a ticket since 1982. We just drove 8300 miles on a trip out west & in many, many parts of this country, you will see very little traffic on these beautiful interstates that we have. I agree with a prior poster that 2 tier speed limits cause many more problems than single speed limit zones. I am in favor of enforcing the speed limits & would have no problem with photo radar on any of our roads.

VERY True, check I-81 in Pa sometime, they block off 36 mi of interstate, & work on 1 mi.

I was camping w/ a father & son from Iowa on the Labour Day weekend. They were telling me the worst part of the trip was the 55 limit across IL. They were glad when they hit IN.

We just came accross Illinois on I80 two weeks ago.
I thought the speed limit was already raised for heavy trucks and people towing trailers and the state forgot to update their signs. I think we were passed by almost every vehicle that came up behind us while we were traveling about 58 MPH while towing our TT.
By the way, check out the higher tolls charged by Ohio on I80. They were recently increased accept for those possessing an easy-pass. Took a big jump for drivers paying cash.

I have been pulling campers in Illinois for several years usually between 60-65 mph. I have never been pulled over or have I seen an rv pulled over. Just a quick poll....how many people have been ticketed for exceeding the posted 55 mph in illinois? The reason I ask, is that I don't think it is strongly enforced. P.S. I do slow down in the construction zones...it is very sad when you hear about some road worker that is injured, or worse, just trying to make a living.
