I have had Directv in my MH for 6 years with no problems to speak of. I have a Winegard crank up sat dish on the roof that works well for me. ... If I switch to Dish, what would I be giving up?
Is the Dish sat harder to locate and will the reception be the same as Direct?

The main difference will be that Dish Network SD programming is on two satellites, not just one like DirecTV. What this means to you is that you will only be able to "see" one Dish Network satellite at a time, so each time you want to switch from a program on, say, the 119 satellite to a program on the 110 satellite, you'll have to re-aim the dish. It's certainly do-able, but could quickly become a PITA.

A Dish 500 dish with a twin or quad LNB picks up both 110 and 119 at the same time. A Dish 1000 dish with a quad LNB gets both of them plus the 129 satellite which is the HD programing. No re-aiming the dish at any time, until you move. Also with the twin LNB you can run two different receivers and with the quad you can run up to four.

While that is true, the OP said they had a crank-up Winegard satellite dish on their RV, which only has a single LNB. I was under the impression that they were not interested in buying another dish, which is why I gave the answer I did.

The Dish 1000 typically uses the Dish Pro QUAD LNB.

Not the Dish 1000 I've got.

The confusion could be over the difference between Dish 1000 and Dish 1000 Plus.

Both use 3 LNBs. However, the Dish 1000 Plus can receive signals from 4 satellites because it includes a dual band LNB that receives signals from both the 118.7 and 119 satellited.
