Two weeks ago, when I went to check on my rig, i noticed several bugs flying and crawling along the inside rim of my toilet. I sprayed, and killed them, wiped them out. Came back last night and several more again in the same area. Any ideas why?

Are they tiny little gnat-type bugs? We had the same thing happen this summer while camping at Prophetstown State Park in Indiana. When we moved locations, no more bugs. I never did figure out why we had them, so I'll be interested to see other responses.

Do a Google search on "sewer flies" and you will find out all about them.

I had the same thing a while back when we were in a grass covered storage yard. I finally solved the problem by removing the cap on the roof vent and placing a rather fine bug screen over the end of the vent pipe then replaced the cap over it. No more little bugs.

Being from South Texas, we refer to them as piss flies. I changed my toilet and they disappeared. Before R&R of commode, I took my toilet apart and cleaned it. Re-installed only to have the piss flies come back. Apparently there are crevices where fecal material can accumulate inside the base of the toilet that will sustain piss flies.

Yup, yucky problem. Our toilet was inop for a couple of weeks while we order and replaced the water valve, in that time we had skeeters lay eggs somewhere, we think inside the rim so guess what -- we had skeeter larve hatching and crawling around. All we could do was clean the toilet well with bleach water, spraying up into the rim. In a few days they either all hatched and got killed off or the bleach killed them.

Some toilets like older Thetford have an overflow that is supposed to have a one way valve but it doesn't work. That could allow critters from the black tank into your MH. I plugged my overflow mainly to keep odors out. Newer Thetford toilets don't have an overflow. BTW mine is a 2000 Aqua Magic. I believe that 2-3 years after mine the overflow disappeared.
