Just got to Ft. Wilderness in my Class A - Fleetwood Pace Arrow and my steps won't extend on my RV. Has anyone ever had this problem? Any simple ideas on how to fix it? I have the button for the steps activated and they usually go in and out based on if I open the door or if I turn the ignition.
Thanks in advance!

Have you driven through rain? My steps go bonkers with moisture. However, as soon as they dry out, everything returns to normal. Verrrry frustrating!

Kwikee steps are known to stick sometimes. The best solution to get you going is loosen the mounting bolts on the motor.
Then get yourself out of the way and use a rubber mallet or a wooden stick and rap the motor while someone opens the door to the rig.
Do a search on here for Kwikee steps not opening and there are many posts about them. This fix will work for awhile, but then you have to take the gearbox off and swing some gears a bit...
best of luck...Mike

If you have Kwikee steps I'd check the door switch, the ground wire and the power/fuse first. There is a controller and the actuator motor assembly that also fail but check the simple stuff first. The kwikee web site has the user manual that can help diagnose the problem. At least they are not stuck in the extend position.

they are Kwikee steps.
Not sure what the 'door switch' is or where that is located unless you are talking about the 'power' switch. I have power, I can see a light under the steps.
Where is the fuse?
I will try to find an online manual - thanks!

The door switch is a small round black disk. On the door is a magnet in the jamb is the switch. When the magnet passes the switch it operates the steps. On mine the magnet was never screwed to the door and comes out of adjustment. It needs to pass quite close to the part in the door jamb to work. If the light is on, the fuse is good and so is the wiring.

Fleetwood gassers have an inside screen door and on mine there is a magnet on the screen door edge down low that meets another rectangular box on the jamb when closed which houses the reed switch that activates the steps. Light on under the coach above the steps would indicate the switches have "extended" the steps and been stopped by some linkage failure. There is a sensor that turns off the motor when the steps reach their limit or meet an obstruction such as a curb.
I have had this happen. First crawl around under the steps and lubricate everything that looks like it should move. Then starting with the power on and the door closed have your helper open the door while you pull on the steps from under the lowest step. Don't get a finger near anything that might move. I have found that I can relieve the "arthritis" by working the steps back and forth several to many times. I also use Kwikee step lube which has a property of staying where you put it rather than running off and dripping in my eyes. SHort of that I would try pure silicone lube - avoid WD 40.
If none of this works I am past my experience level.

If , eventually , you determine that the motor is shot , a motor from a ford taurus or crown vic power window is the EXACT replacement and can be bought on the internet for about $30

We had many, many problems with Kwikee steps. We also had many, many solutions to the problems that all worked for at least a short time. Finally, someone suggested checking the ground wire. Found it, shined it all up, reattached it so that it was really tight. The problems went away for the longest time. When they returned, sure enough the ground wire had loosened again.
