Since 7 reportedly has a DOS window you should be able to use this (hopefully you can maximize the window):

Easy-word for DOS

Flexible operating systems call for flexible solutions.

Thats good to know. One of those things to file away for future reference.

I actually prefer the older versions of Office. The newest ones are to bloated with way too many "features" to figure out.

Doesn't 7 have a XP mode you can run and run 2000 under that?? I thought I heard 7 was able to run as if it was XP.

Win7 has an XP mode available in the top couple of versions,Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate, but there are some requirements- you must have a cpu which is virtualization ready- either an AMD-V or Intel VT.
It is failry good, though the same thing has been available for years (I've been running Windows under a virtual machine since 2001, first Win98 and now Win XP pro)- it does in fact install a failry complete version of XP inside Win7.
If you don;t have one of the expensive versions, and do have an installable copy of XP (or 2000, for that matter), you can probably use a free application like VirtualBox (what I use) or VMWare to do the same thing.

Now that's really odd...

I've since upgraded to Windows 7 on my wife's Dell laptop as well as my HP laptop. No problems with the install on either....

I also installed MS Office 2000 on both machines - MS Office works fine on both machines.

So does OpenOffice. I've also installed OpenOffice on both laptops too.

I don't know about Office 2000 but Office 2003 is happily running on my Win 7 machine.

I guess it was Outlook that he was having trouble with.
