Your guess is as good as ours. Tioga Pass, SR 120 has been closed three times this month due to snow. Mammoth ski run opened last Friday. San Diego set record cold for October. El Nino has gotten stronger. That event has been known to bring colder and wetter conditons over other seasons. We could just as easily have a nice high pressure ridge sitting over the region. Bishop forecast is calling for sunny and bright next 7 days. Tahoe is predicting breezy Monday or Tuesday with slight chance of rain Tuesday. Have a nice trip.

10 day outlook for Lee Vining (Near Junction of 395 and 120 just north of Deadman summit) is cool and clear. As long as the weather stays nice, you will have no problems. 395 is a very scenic drive. If there is a storm right before or during your trip, call 1-800-427-ROAD for the CalTrans highway information hotline. It is pretty accurate about closures.

Go to Weather.com and look at the 10 day forecast.

I ski every Christmas at Mammoth and every Feb at Tahoe and we use 395.

We do carry chains and have had to use them twice. In Oct I would think it would be pretty dry on the road.

Just watch for black ice....if the temp is below freezing and the ground looks wet...black ice.

Gas prices are high on this route....frul up in Carson City before heading out.

Google "caltrans" and put in the route number for up to the minute info on road conditions.

Call Mammoth direct if you want ski conditions. Yes I think you are early.
