I did it!!!!! Should get my first check Wednesday!!!
Maybe my math is flawed but here's why in round numbers.
$ at 62 = 1200
$ at 66 = 1500
66 - 62 = 48 months at 1200 = 57,600
The 300 more I would get at 66 divided into 57,600 is 192 months or 16 years to recoup. 16 + 66 is 82 years old.
I retired from the State 8 years ago so I don't have to worry about other earned income.
Besides, I want to get SOME of my money back before it's all gone!!!

I'm filing at 62, 5 more years, if it's still possible then. It might be gone, huh?

I did everything online. Didn't even have to go in to the SS Office!!! I filed 5 months ago. They won't let you file before you are 61 yrs and 9 months old!!! And then they said expect my first check two months AFTER my 62nd birthday.

To compare apples to apples, you have to also add interest on the money you start receiving between 62 and 66 THEN divide by 300 and that will place the break even point after age 82. I did my math and also started at age 62.

Me too. Didnt wait at all,,started at 62. Didnt even consider interest and the time value of money,,by the time I get to 82, I wont need as much money anyway.

Retired at 62 here as well, and I haven't been sorry a bit!
The two months to get your first check is because the checks are a month behind, so the check you get the second month is for the previous month. You'll actually get your checks (or the highly recommended direct deposits) on whichever Wednesday is designated based on your birth date.

62 for me, as well.
No regrets.
Direct Deposit is DEFINITELY the way to go, IMO. I have both the military and SS check that way.

I also retired at 62, never looked back. Do the math, takes 15 or so years to make up the difference.
