Looking to get directv service, called them today and told them I wanted to get service for my MH. They started with that I had to call KVH I do not have KVH system. KVH said I had to talk with Directv. They switch me back to Direct. Now Direct say I have to buy a reciever for local store/dealer. Then Call them back. IS this the normal process, will the local store know how to set up an account for MH's? Or am I going to get the run-around? How did you guys get your system set up? I plan on get DNS service once I get a system going. During my travels so far I have not had much luck pulling in ABC CBS & NBC over the air. These are the main channels I am after, So I will be going for the smallest package I can get with the DNS. I have printed out he DNS forms I need. Thanks for any information you can give me.

It is not hard to get service except that a lot of DirecTV's telephone service people are not properly trained regarding RV subscribers. Call then again and if you get that kind of runaround ask to speak to an RV specialist or to a supervisor. In the meanwhile read this.

If you are near a Camping World I would go there to but a receiver. You can also get one at Costco or Best Buy. (Don't buy the HD receiver unless you have the new Winegard Dish) Once you get it home and connected to your dome you can call DTV to have the account activated with the package you want except DNS then mail in the paperwork and they will get those channels activated, although it takes a while. (use the 800 531-5000 number when you call to get things activated) You will be committed for a 2 yr contract.

i bought all the equipment and installed it myself at the house..all I did was call Directv and give them the model of the receiver and the serial # and they turned it on...then I purchased another receiver for the motor home and take it with me when we go somewhere...it works easy..don't know why they are bouncing you like a ball...

If I am a DirecTV subscriber, why can't I simply move one of my receivers to the RV, as long as no one is at my home to use any of the others? I'm paying for a monthly service....I should be able to use it anywhere I choose as long as it's only one location at a time.

You can do just that if you have a dish/dome on the coach that can receive Direct TV. We did that for a brief period then finally got a receiver for the motorhome. We pay Direct $4.99 per month for the receiver in the motorhome.
If you move one of your receivers to your motorhome and there is someone needing to watch at home (with any remaining receivers), that should work just fine.

I know alot of people do it, but that is a violation of you agreement with DTV..You'll probably never get caught but then again..You can only use the service at one location at a time..

DirecTV has an ad in the Sept. issue of Motorhome magazine for HOME AND RV. Page 9.
In that ad DirecTV states they will give you a free RV KIT containing dish, travel tripod and 50' of cable with NEW RESIDENTIAL home service activation and purchase of CHOICE programming or above.

One of the problems I see in getting a home service and then taking it with the RV is I know I will be out of my home area spot. So if I am understanding the satellite thing right, I will lose ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox and those are the channels that I want to get. I did not have much luck getting those channels on my last trip. For me, about all I watch is those networks and when I can Discovery and TLC and any channel like that. I mean if I could get just the DNS for $14.00 it would be great, but I know the directv is going to make you sign up for a bunch on other junk just so I can get the DNS. I just wish they would make it a eazy process to get set up. Why don't they give you a box for a RV like they do for a house?
