The compressor pulley itself must be seizing upon engagement of the clutch to the compressor...I would replace the compressor clutch and the pulley that the belt turns....or since you have to do it anyway...replace the compressor and the pulley clutch...then no more problem...

Sounds like your compressor is seized. When you turn on the AC the clutch engages and with a seized compressor it tries to stop the belt. The 454 will win the battle and the belt will be toast.

Have you checked the compressor to see if it is locked up? Bypass the switch to engage the clutch then see if you can turn it by hand, I bet you will find it will not turn.

Does the compressor turn by hand? (not easy or freely but you should be able to get it to move) During your install inspection did you have the air on and compressor was turning?

Otherwise if the compressor turns I would take it to a a/c shop and make sure it was not over filled with freon or oil.

I'm hoping a couple dozen more people will respond with the same answer.

Maybe the compressor is seized.

There you go Gunship, 1 down 11 to go. Why are we doing this?

There is no doubt that the compressor is seized. When the AC is not on, the clutch on the compressor is disengaged and the AC compressor pulley is turning free and the belt is allowed to just turn free. Now you turn on the AC and the belt breaks!! When you turned on the AC, it activates the clutch on the compressor which should then allow the compressor to turn and do it's job, but guess what? Because the compressor is "seized" it won't turn and with all that added load, the belt either has to slip, or the clutch has to slip, or the belt "Breaks". Get the compressor checked before adding a new belt. The belt can also break in the winter when you use the "Defroster" because the defrost cycle also turns ON the AC. There yo go Gunship 2 down

I dont think its the compressor, check the flux capacitor first they are alot cheaper than compressors.
