Thought I'd follow-up since I started this thread. Tears in my eyes from laughing. Good thing in all the stories, is that no one was seriously injured or killed. Also much good advice. Drive safely.

Talked to my sister today and she has a new crossover SUV. A buck ran out and some how took off mirror on one side with some damage to the door and made it to the other side to damage that entire side of the care. 3,000 in damage.

The one I came the closest to was in my wife mini van and he was tall enough that he was looking into the car as I was breaking and going around him. Luckily he did not move. I saw him in the middle of my lane. I held my coarse till the last minute. new if he was blinded he would not move and it worked but then again he may of had a bet with his buddy over on the shoulder of the road. I could of reached out and stuck my finger up his nose and not of even stretched.

It's hard to believe dead-animal-in-the-road stories could be so much fun! I have had to chuckle, especially about the one with fur that kept flying out from the mother's car.

The one I will never forget. I had my trailer loaded an hooked up to go to a family reunion. I received a call about 8 pm that my cousin that had put the reunion together had hit a Moose with his Harley on the way there. Instead of going to a reunion I went to a funeral. Not all have happy endings.

I almost hit an eagle once. Going 70mph down the highway when one swooped down to dine on road kill. At the very last moment it went back up.

That would have been lovely, pull into the parking lot with the American symbol plastered to my grill. Wonder what the fine would have been for that one.

The family and I were heading North on I-5 to Seattle from Portland. It was summer time and light out when a cat came running off the shoulder. I said "CAT" and then the thump thump as the front driver side tire hit and it went under. The look my wife and daughter gave me was classic they were horrified and wondered why I didn't try to avoid it. Silly Girls

Did the same thing once back in the early 70's in my Z-28 I had just tuned. Was drifting into a corner way faster than I should have been but I was testing my tune-up My girlfriend stayed PO'd for a long time that I didn't try to avoid that cat. Like you said, Silly Girl.

You have all given reason and examples for leaving a good distance

vehicles ahead of you for sudden lane movements.
I have been fortunate regarding dead animals but have hit boards and
pieces of recaps. When that happens I always pull over for a good vehicle
inspection and a stretch. Better safe than sorry later.

While I agree with you about watching way ahead for trouble, I don't know about where you're at but 'round here if you leave 3 vehicle lengths between you and the vehicle in front of you, 4 vehicles will pull into that gap.

Its sad to hear about all this animals needlessly dying. There was a book out awhile back called the Highway Gormet. Maybe it would come in handy now
