Hi all;

I will be getting off work on the evening of 12/23 and plan to tow my 21ft sailboat to Jacksonville for the Christmas/New Year holiday. It is about a 9 or 10 hour drive by car and I figure to add a couple of hours with the tow. I am thinking 4 to 5 hours plus a time zone will put me on I-75 between Atlanta and Macon around midnight.

Can anyone recommend a campground for the night?
Pull thru parking would be great as I don't want to accidentally spear someone's RV with the 5 feet of carbon fiber mast hanging off of the stern of my rig.

Thanks!

High Falls State Park is just north of Forsyth and just a couple of miles off the interstate. Also just south of Forsyth there is a KOA,which in my opinion is pricey for coming in around midnight. Good Luck

Why not use a rest stop along the way? I did when going to S.C. years ago. It won't cost you anything and you could park where the semis and campers do. Those areas are for pulling thru.

That is what I would say to do but the bigger rest stops are farther south....there is a I-75 rest stop web site that will tell you where they are....

If you have another 30 miles in you, you might consider the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry. It's right on I-75. FMCA holds its convention there on a pretty regular basis. The campground is open year round, with info on the link.

At exit 205 is Forest Glen Mobile Home and RV Park. I've never stayed there but, I've been by it a number of times and it looks fine. It's right off of the interstate, on the west side. High Falls State Park is another option, but it is farther from the interstate, and IIRC it only has water and electric.

Almost half way between Atlanta and Macon is is Indian Springs State Park in Flovilla, GA it's about 15 miles off the highway with an easy drive back to I75 near Macon. We usually stay there overnight or for a couple of days on our way south for the winter. It's situated on a nice lake. If you want just move on without stopping long, then I would use Walmart or one of the other parking lot stops along the way.

Coming into a state park at midnight might be kind of a hassle. In fact, it might be kind of a hassle at almost any park, especially if you want to get away really early the next morning, unless the park has a drop box for payments.

That could be a problem. Georgia state parks 'close' around 10PM. Typically there is a gate that is either locked or electronically controlled. You get there after 'closing' and you don't get in until the park opens the next morning.

Been there, done that...
