Why you want is pretty standard layout for 27 foot Class C. Look at Winnebago, Coachmen, Gulf Stream etc. Most will show rear queen with a front couch on one side and dinette on the other. Plus the overhead bed.
Hello Rick, Had to chuckle as we all know the "I want" thing. Two years ago, I was looking at 40+ ft. Class A's. Needs changed due to size of family but I still wanted to travel with my wife, so opted for an Ebay 23.5' in what appeared clean/lightly used Class C.
Bottom line is that THE SIZE and amenities have actually been a PLUS in some ways. We can park almost anywhere, even here at our condo by backing up over the grass etc. and not upsetting anyone. Found easy parking everywhere we were in our JUST completed 9000 mile trip across southern U.S. Had found restrictions on 24,26 and 30' rigs in National Parks and I think State Parks and 30' on some twisting roadways.
Anyway, I'm so glad I have our 23.5' older rig, that is now in top condition due to sweat equity and a few more bucks. It's almost as good as the old college days with the VW camper vans... , well, except for gas milage! (9.5 on latest journey)
The size vs. amenities trade-off is really getting to me!
I currently have a 23 foot truck camper, and, I can go most anywhere and get a campsite anywhere. We just spent 19 days on the road, and it was ok, but TIGHT. If it rains and you need to spend some time indoors, it gets claustrophobic.
I want to spend a YEAR on the road, but still want to be able to go everywhere.
We have a model 26SO Coachman. which is 26 ft (actually about 26.5) and have spent 3 1/2 months in it on a couple of trips with no problem, just me and wife. We've been to Calif and up thru Wash and meandered about the country with no length problems. we got a toad for last few trips and with this it makes you watch where you pull in , to be sure you can get out. Ours has one slide and a full queen rear bed. I was looking for the shortest with a full rear bed and this was it. It has been plenty of room for us and we really enjoy it. Happy Hunting... fred
What Fred V says, check out that Coachmen Freelander 2600 SO. We rented one of those and it also has a nice shower and has huge storage in the back. I sorta wish we had gotten one of those instead because it's only about foot and half longer than ours. At the time we were looking I couldn't find a good used one though.
IMO, remember, just my opinion, before I'd buy anything longer than about a 25-footer in a Class C, I'd opt for a Class A. Much more 'livable' area in the Class A. There are some really nice 26 - 29' Class A's out there. Sorry for muddying the waters!
Hello TurningHawk, This thread is a hair diffent, but maybe not, so expand your input if you do not mind/here or elsewhere, where at least I can gleen something from you on size and class. I'm always interested in learning something. Thanks in advance. ron
If you are looking new, the 2010 2860DS Sunseeker Class C 28' may meet your requirements, and Icon makes several under 24' Class C's as well. Tioga has a 25' Class C. Chateau as well. Most of these can be purchased used as well. Check out RVTrader.com.
