Hey guys, I have been looking and looking for a 4x4 Diesel Class C Motorhome. For the Past year I have been on Ebay, RV trader and many other sites. I found alot of 4x4 Gasers but nothing thats 4x4 Diesel thats anywhere close to my price range. I figured if I could find one at a fairly decent price Id go after it. I travel in the winter months alot when I got up state for bear, or If I am going somewhere out of my locality for a couple days at a time.
I usually take my 1997 Ford F450 4x4 Utlity truck and hook it to my camper trailer and go. But once it snows that trailer acts more like a sled than anything. I figured it would be nice to have the tow rig and the camper be one and have the capabilities as both.
If anyone has any advice or knows of any for sale let me know.

Unfortunately, its rather old ad but you can at least get an idea about Bigfoot. Supposed to be one of the better brands for 4-season use but don't think they are producing at the moment.
I also thought of Bigfoot as Jim did above, their website has the following information.
bigfootrv.com wrote: Big Foot Industries was sold at a Bankruptcy Auction Sale on January 25, 2009. The new owners whom are active in other businesses have decided to put this company back on the market. Here is an excellent opportunity to purchase a great company with a history of having very good products and service. We will be offering for sale the Big Foot name, the trademarks, the web site, build books, the molds, and drawings. There are some of the key employees from the original company living in the area who may be interested in rejoining this company.
Since you say you've been searching Ebay and RV Trader I'm guessing you have seen the Host/Earthroamer/Tiger CX ,4X4, motorhomes for sale. All these are well built semi-custom rigs that command a much higher price than the normal 2wd cutaway van type that are the norm. Have you considered something like a used Bigfoot slide-in truck camper? the Bigfoots are pretty much 4 season campers,(I'm sure there are others too), and you could just drop it on the truck and go. All the used 4X4 diesel mh's I've seen for sale are more costly than our Itasca Cambria was new. Good luck with you're search

08 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited (TOAD)
06 Jeep GC Overland 4x4 5.7 Hemi "Fun is standard, Pavement is optional" JEEP
You can get the Tiger CX mentioned above in gas or diesel, SRW or DRW, on any cab length 350/3500 pickup chassis that Ford or Chevy makes. One problem might be the LP generator that comes with the diesels, since Onan doesn't make a really small diesel genset. I have seen one Duramax CX a-building with a gas Onan 2800, tho'. Dunno if that was a special one-time deal or what.
I'm _really_ happy with my '06 CX.

Another RV that gets frequent mention is the Xplorer Motor Homes. Don't know what your "fairly decent price" might be.
You can get many motorhomes on the E450 chassis with the diesel. For a little longer anyways. Then you can have it converted to 4x4 by QuadVan or SalemKroger.

I ask because, frankly, in an E-450 (the most common Class C MH) the difference in both HP and Torque is really negligible.
i once did a very detailed price comparison between diesel and gas that took everything I could think of into account and found basically zero savings from going with a diesel, despite the better fuel efficiency - mostly due to the higher initial cost.
I am not trying to discourage you from buying a diesel, mind you, but maybe you should think about why you are not considering a gas engine and you might find that it is a viable option for you.
Then again, maybe not. You have to do what is right for you.
An alternative to 4wd, that I'm considering for our Diesel Ford E350 are rear lockers. From what I've read (no personal experience) rear lockers can offer better traction that limited slip 4wd.
