We have a TV show up here called 'Canada's Worst Driver'.
They have a group of so called drivers and try to rehabilitate them. How these morons got their license in the first place is beyond me.
So, Yes! I do believe that article

Many have the attitude that it is a mindless task that needs no thought. They are not looking ahead and analyzing the traffic around them, hell I bet most of them could not tell you the color of the car in front of them at any given time. They don't plan their moves in traffic and think that they can react fast enough to an emergency situation. It seems that it includes all age, race and wealth classes.I told my kids when I taught them(yes I did TEACH them to drive)that this is the one thing you do every day that can KILL YOU, so pay attention to what you are doing. Ithink you nailed it. Driving is organic. It's like eating or breathing. It's just something you do while the important stuff is going on. #5 years ago, I was required to take a Federal Defensive driving course in order to drive Government vehicles. It was the most relevant class I ever took. I wish it had been incorporated into drivers' ed today.

I think they must all live in Holland, MI. I have travelled in 48 states and clear across Canada, been in Chicago and Atlanta traffic and can say that some of the worst drivers I have seen are in little Holland, MI.

I'm going to bash La Crosse Wisconsin. We have three colleges and a large senior population. One group can't see and the other can't drive. You guess which. Makes for and interesting dichotomy.I prefer driving in Chicago. I do love the area, the people, and the natural beauty here. The driving public, not so much.

It contradicted the way you had to drive to survive without getting in a accident over there. Unless you drove a tank, you had to drive aggressively. If you drive "defensively" over there, it would take you hours to go across town.

When we renewed our DL the clerk just finished with another guy and she was laughing about it. The story--He had taken the driving test a few days before and failed it because when he talked he used his hands so he kept taking his hands off the wheel. This day he got in the car and told the tester: "This is the last words I'm going to say until this test is over", and he didn't talk again til it was over and he had passed his test. They had to pass him but you know he will be talking when he is driving and is unsafe.

That's the way I feel and try to drive defensively. But it's tough sometimes as those drivers try to counter your defensive moves.

This is part of the result of not having drivers education in our schools!
Also cell phones should not be used while driving. I don't care who you are....you can not give driving your undivided attention when on a cell phone!

Just last week I was texting while drafting behind a semi at 65 MPH with a cop behind me.
I'm not dead (or ticketed) yet...
Different drivers have different skill levels and generalizations just don't work.
