Add my two cents to what Bear said...

"Be sure to test run the generator before buying it, just to see how loud it really will be. If you can sit within 5 feet of it while reading a book and not be bothered by the noise, chances are your neighbors won't be either."

I and several friends are very happy with our Champions as they do very well what they are designed to do make electrical voltage. I do know they are a bit louder than some of the above mentioned but partially because they run at a fixed rpm. I have had many folks walk by when I might be excersizing our unit & they are plenty complimentery about how quiet it is for a $178. unit. We use it sparingly but are very happy to have it for the Rv & as a backup for the house. If nothing has changed in them you will not be disapointed with one! IMHO

Lot's of NEW Champions along with other New brands, all close to the same in quality. Common parts even with the original Honda. A brand like DuroPower now has lowered the dbA to 63, with side and end panels on their new DP3500EC (Electric Start) and @349 with free shipping is a nice deal. I owned one with great success. Also, my Champion C46540 has Electric Start added and after over two years in service, it has been a winner. Used now for the stick house back up.

Rolling Condo, yeah that is one long thread, and I did get into it. I should get props just for taking the time! I apologize for starting another generator thread, seems most of the posts here are just like those posted on other threads. You belong to one of three groups. Those that hate generators period, those that hate anything that isnt red or blue, then the rest. Some have said the Champion is fine, some say it is horibbly loud! Guess I should consider the source sometimes.

For those that have added the two cents about hearing the generator before I buy it, I am all for it, but can you point me to a retailer that will do that? Most places that I know of are not going to open a box and turn a new product into a used product for someone that "might" buy it. I am not near a Cabela's and that I know of, no one here sells it, thus I will be stuck buying it online. I wouldnt mind buying it, taking it to the parking lot, cranking it up, then returning it if need be. Buy buying online doesnt make things that easy. I live in Ocala, FL, and I have no problems driving an hour or so before making this type of purchase if I can avoid the online purchase.

I have a Champion use it mainly for the a/c its overkill for running the small stuff. I have been saving my money for a Honda 2000 for watching TV running the microwave and charging batteries. I have had the Champion now for two seasons and its a bit loud for me. When running the A/C I cant hear it over the inside fan. I bought mine for $350, mail in rebate-$150=$200 great price. Great unit for the price.

I have a Honda 2000. But I think a Champion 3500 is well worth the $300 - $400 they cost. They aren't THAT loud.

Click on our blog to see a pic of our recently purchased ETQ 8,250 watt, 14hp for $773.00 from Amazon.com. Lots of power, QUIET and looks to be a well made, quality machine. So far, we're very happy with it.

I have gone thru 2 gens so far first was a duropower 3k it did well was not too lous but not quiet either. That one went out and i got the champion it was about the same noise wise with a tad more power.I used it in 100 degree+ heat for 2 days straight running the a/c and had alot of hours on it over the 2 years it worked.

Most use was at glamis sand dunes so noise was not an issue esp with all the ambient noise you could barely hear it on the other side of trailer with a couple of well placed boards But quiet camp areas it was a tad noisy.Well its on its last legs it struggles to power up my a/c once it does it is ok.I got my moneys worth.

With the champ fading away i broke down and bought a used honda eu3000 for 1300.Its about 450 here for a champion in CA.So that was a factor in going for the honda,I already have about 30 hours on it and have only gone thru 2 tanks of fuel half of that has been using the A/C so right of the bat it is using alot less fuel and is really quiet. At the dunes i cant hear it running from 5 ft away when its in the back of the truck.

First, let me say that I have a Champion 3500/4000 and it does what I ask of it. It is a good choice for somebody that doesn't have a lot of money to spend. The Honda and Yamaha is a good choice if you have the money. I don't use my generator much so putting the money in a very quiet generator didn't make sense at the time.
