I have an 02 DSDP with a 7500 Watt Quiet generator. It has always run well, but now will not run. It will start and run for approx. 2 seconds and quit. I brought the coach to Eastern Canada Cummins-Onan. They thought it must be an electrical problem not associated with the actual generator and suggested I take it to an RV dealer, which I did. He spent 8hours and bypassed all external electrical, including oil and fuel sensors. The result was the same, so it appears it must be in the generator. Any ideas appreciated.

If it was a gas generator, I'd say the carb is varnished up and needs to be broken down for a thorough cleaning. That's the way mine acted when I let gas sit too long in the carb.

I don't know what happens with diesel if it isn't exercised regularly, but the injectors may be something to look at.

I have heard of this problem before but don't remember what the solution turned out to be. Perhaps a search here on the forum might wield a result that helps.

Meanwhile, there is a bank of relays and an electronic control that can cause this symptom. I whack my relay box with a rubber mallet to get mine to run, but I don't think that would help you. But you never know.

When it dies it should give an error code. Are you getting a code?

It will start and stop instantly with little or no oil pressure...

Or a bad oil pressure switch.

What is the code that it gives you???? The switch should be blinking when it shuts down. Touch the bottom of the switch, it will then blink your trouble code. First it will blink 3 times followed by some more blinks. Count the number. If it blinks 3 times, pauses and blinks 8 times, the code would be 38. Then look it up in the manual to give you an idea what the problem is. 38 happens to be high amperage draw which the recommended solution is to decrease the load. In my case it was a fuel problem. I am not suggesting that yours is but in my case it was. New fuel pump and I was good to go. This is just one example but the code will at least give you a starting point.

Do you have plenty of diesel fuel? My generator stops when the main fuel tank level gets down to about 3/8 of a tank.

Have you checked the fuel line for cracks, sounds like it is sucking air.
