Thanks guys for all the info the manual says type A ,if that's what's in the sump it's clear, maybe it is hydraulic fluid, I'll phone Lippert to check. The sump was sent from KEYSTONE LOW, so just want to add acouple quarts. As a retired engineer I am reluctant to add or mix unknown fluids together,it can be very costly down the road.
thanks again fellas

That depends on the manufacturer and how the slides were installed. If all Lipperts are the same, than OK, but generic information like that is not always correct. On my 5W, the living room slide has to be out, the bedroom slide in to check fluid levels.

Just heard back from Lippert about the type of fluid in the slide out tank and they say it's okay to mix Type F auto trans fluid with what's in there, so thanks for all your suggestions

That is true....However the reply was not generic. The OP stated he had a 2009 Montana and the reply does apply to the Montana..That is why I posted it.

redsb3,
Where did you get the information about what YOUR slide situation had to be for checking the oil?

When our trailer was new we opened all the slides and marked on the reservoir the fluid level. We then closed all the slides and did the same thing. This was done with the help of the dealer at the PDI.

Duck,
You have a very good dealer if the reservoir was filled properly to begin with.

My manual says all slides in and tank should be filled to 1 inch from the top(Montana).
