Who is this person Adam Gryglak? Almost sounds like a Klingon name, doesn't it?
He's a guy who answers his phone...not with the usual "Hello" as is pretty much universal in the entire world. He says "Diesel!"
Assuming he is single minded, detail orientated, creative, focused and committed would be an understatement! More of a fanatic perhaps? Just the kind of guy Ford wanted to design the new PSD!
His Dad is a Polish Engineer who immigrated to Chicago, scrimped and saved to send Adam to the world famous 100 year old Chicago Lane Technical High School, then the University of Illinois to receive a masters degree in mechanical engineering. Then he was hired by Ford, designed some new fuel delivery systems, moved into Advanced Engine Design Group, and in just 19 years became one of the leading Engineers and an expert in the world regarding Diesel Engines. Working closely with Peugeot and other European Diesel engine experts, he became the Project Engineer on the first all new, from the ground up "clean slate" Diesel engine in Fords history.
He also designed this "MASCOT"
and code named the new engine "Scorpion" after his favorite 80's Rock Band! Every piece of stationary that came out of his office had this logo on it.
The mechanized Scorpion mascot was designed using actual computerized production diagrams of the diesel engine's internal bits and pieces. Note the engine block body, connecting rod pincher's and the tail that protrudes from the turbocharger. Cool huh?
It's nice to know that America still produces forward thinking men like Edison, Franklin, Bell, Fulton, Whitney, Salk, the Wright boys, Mr. Goodyear, McCormick, Colt, et.al!
We will have to wait a bit to see if this new engine in the new "Holy Grail" Ford has been praying for...it's new Phoenix rising from the ashes! I personally can hardly wait!
I am right behind you fordsooperdooty. I hope this new Ford diesel meets the expectations and all the public hoopla. If it does I will be in the market for a scorpion powered Ford after all the bugs are worked out. Go Ford!!
I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.

My questions: how much of the royalities does PSA get out of this; who would be the proposed other OEM, that Ford mentioned in it's PR release who would like to use the engine and what happenes if the engine does not perform, another Navisar debacle?

PSA probably won't get any royalties. They most likely were just paid fees as work progressed. I strongly suspect the other OEM may be Tognum, as the 6.7L is VERY similar to Tognum's engines, with the dual-series-compressor, exhaust in valley and other architecture similarities. Tognum is the parent of Detroit Diesel and Mercedes off-highway. Pure speculation, but when I see the drawings of the 6.7L, it looks awfully similar to Tognum's offerings.

Makes sense. The engine in a derated form ,would have applications in a marine environment in Europe.PSA have been doing a lot of diesel projects for many automotive companies.

Now that's PUNNY! I'm more excited that they have a new 6 speed transmission that stacks up to GM's allison. This could be my next truck when I'm ready to buy in 2012!!
