Thank you for all the input. We purchased the Laramie 2500 w/5.7 Hemi which has Towing capacity of :11350 lbs - maxPayload 3160 lbs - We are now researching the 299 MP and 300 MP Raptors toyhaulers. Any input on these two trailers or similar trailers will be greatly appreciated.

We have a toyhauler forum that will have more input on particular units than the 5th wheel trailer forum. Check the TH forum out.

WOW, that was a complete 180. IMHO, I'd went with a bigger (diesel) truck and the larger TH. Once you decide you want something bigger in a few years (OR LESS) you will be revisiting the truck size issue again. Take it from us experts. Most of us have upgraded and spent more money on bigger trucks and Campers than you can shake a stick at!

I tow sig. 5er with a GVW of 16,900#, though most it's ever been loaded to was "right at 15,000#. The old addage of "I don't even know it's back there" will fall by the wayside if you hook an 18,000# GVW 5er up to a 3500/350 Dually...I wouldn't want to tow anything heavier than what I do now and my engine and tranny are pretty doggone stout, but towing in the mountains of WV,TN,SC,NC and VA, yeah, I know it's back there. I can't imagine adding a couple thousand more pounds and towing it. Maybe the F350 w/Tow Boss would work, but I'd be looking at a MDT, or even Bruce mentioned, there are some good deals to be had on some of the HDT. If you go to the Teton Homes, Carriage or Mobile Suites websites where people are towing those amount of weights, it rare that you see them towing with 1 ton dually's. I'd be concerned about safety, but common sense dictates such.

ON EDIT: Wow, that WAS a 180...well, it was 11 day's ago when they started their research..

As much as I'd like to own a MDT (Freightliner Sport chassis) or HDT (I'd concsder a volvo 610 with single axle) I have to also ask myself, how much will I really use it and how much do I pull the camper. Right now I can't say I do enough to justify getting rid of the F350 and buying a new truck. I'd still lose my a$$ on that one. However, I have planted that seed as far as DW is concerned, if you know what I mean...

Oh boy, do we understand! Some confine their buying decisions of trucks to tow large trailers to the same methods they used to buy the commute-to-work car and get bitten with that "I hate this thing" bug by the significant other.

Your choice of the volvo 610 is a good one for all the obvious reasons: singled, not much bigger footprint than any dually, low height, less ground weight yet still able to be configured and registered as "motorhome" in most states, same H/P - torque output and braking abilities as bigger brothers, lastly VERY cheap to purchase at this time.

Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!

Those are very big trailers and I would say you may want to look at something smaller. My Chevy has a tow rating of 12500 and my 5ers GVWR is 11,500 or so and thats all the wieght I want behind me. The 299 empty is at 10K and has a GVWR of 14K and since its a toy hauler I would assume you will be putting some wieght in it i.e. motorcycles. It just seems like a lot to ask a HEMI to pull. I am not knocking HEMI's I like them alot and had one in my last ram. I am just saying you may be unhappy with something that heavy.

Minimum is a F350 dually with the Tow Boss package. Preferred is the F450. You don't need a HDT...... and I am part of the weight police....

I agree. I went from a 9000lbs trailer to a 13000lbs trailer and the old saying "I can't tell it's back there" went out the window! I now want at least a MDT. But right now, with the economy and diesel fuel prices still all over the place and the fact that I'd loose my butt on trading or trying to sell my F350, that's what I got. The F350 is capable truck and will get the job done. I will use it for its purpose, to pull the TH. But maybe, just maybe one day, I can move up to an MDT or even maybe a HDT. I just know my HOA would have a field day with the TH and a HDT backed up in the back yard...LOL!
