I always recommend to family and friends visiting San Diego a stay at Santee Lakes. Owned by the Santee Water District, it's got a nice rural feel to it with 6 small fishing lakes, grassy areas, paved spaces for any length rv, close to WalMart and shopping, as well as San Diego attractions like the Zoo, Sea World, Harbor, Wild Animal Park, etc. Reasonable rates include full hookups, cable tv, phone, etc. If children or friends are there with ya, lots for them to do also! Very nice place!
What part of San Diego city or county did you plan to visit? This answer would go a long way to giving you a good recommendation.
Are you Mil. retired?
Do you have a campground menbership?
The nicest RV park in San Diego is in San Diego county in the desert. It is in Borrego Springs. We stayed there for a week last jan. Wonderful that time of year. I also agree with the posters that Santee Lakes and Chula Vista are great parks. If you are lucky enough to be a Thousand Trails member there is a park in Jamul and Descanso that are both very nice. There are a couple of State parks on the water at Silver Strand beach and Carlsbad. There is a very nice county park in Julian called William Heise and another at Lake Jennings.

If your rig is small enough so you can enjoy the state parks & state beaches: Here are some of the beach campgrounds I had found earlier this year, 2009:
South Carlsbad State Beach seems to allow tent camping as well as RVs. CA Parks ** CA Coastline
'South Carlsbad State Beach, Carlsbad -A popular Camping San Diego location overlooking the beach. No day-use facilities. Campsite features 222 RV/tent sites.'
San Elijo State Beach - 'The narrow, bluff-backed stretch of sand has a nearby reef popular with snorklers and divers.' CA Parks Coastline
Silver Strand State Beach 'features extensive beaches on both the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay.' But seems to be more of a parking lot camping area. 'Camping is available for self-contained vehicles, motor-homes, or trailers, vehicles that are not fully self-contained will be turned away.' CA Parks Coastline
San Onofre State Beach, North of Oceanside CA Parks This beach has overnight camping and is a popular place for swimming, surfing, fishing, picnicking and hiking. The campsite features 220 RV/tent sites
Guajome County Park -This San Diego Camping site offers camping and recreation such as hiking, picnic areas, horseback riding, and fishing. Visitors enjoy a unique blend of history with the historic Rancho Guajome Adobe. Campsite features 35 tent/RV sites. Not a beach campground.
San Clemente State Beach which is in Orange County but is close to San Diego County, I believe. CA Parks Coastline
We decided on San Elijo State Beach and made reservations, but our plans fell apart and we did not make it there.

There is a lot of neat things to see & do in San Diego and Tucson as well.
