Went to Arkansas two weeks ago to see the fall foliage, and stayed at Petit Jean State Park. It's a beautiful park with a great history, a romantic story and fabulous scenery. They also have drive-through campsites with 50 amp full hook-ups!
We had to cut our trip short and hurry to Austin, Texas where our daughter had undergone emergency surgery. She is doing much better now, not out of the hospital yet but expects to go home mid-week.
We were probably a week or two early for optimum color, but for folks from the gulf coast where we never see fall color, it was great. Should be at peak about now....

Two years ago, my wife and I were looking for a place to camp during a drive through Arkansas on the way to Denver. Couldn't believe the scenery at that park!!
If anyone is going through Arkansas, this is a wonderful place to stay, even if just for a day or two.
Near the park is a collector automobile museum. There are some neat original autos, some fancy autos, a car/truck that belonged to Elvis, Pres Clinton's Mustang, I think there was a personal cadillac of John F Kennedy. My husband and I like to visit museums and collections of old cars and that is why I went. I may have some of the cars mixed up with other places I have been. In Little Rock is the Clinton Library and several historical areas about Civil Rights and education. Those of us who are baby boomers remember well the 50's and 60's. For military and retirees, there is an AF base north of Little Rock if you need to hit a commissary, PX, etc. What can I say, we need to stretch those dollars.
