Looks like winter is around the corner... Time to winterize and post Walmart Threads on the Forum...
So what you are saying is "I don't like to overnight at Wal-mart so no one should be allowed to."

True indeed. It will only be a matter of time until a barbecue damages a parking lot surface, of customers become tired of trying to find parking spaces while maneuvering around the "campground."

The Wal-Mart in Bristol VA is commonly hosting at least 2 or 3 on any night I'm in that area. Last week I saw about 8 or 9 rigs. It looked like they'd circled the wagons! I was a little surprised to see jacks down. Really, though, I don't know what that hurts and I don't mind seeing slides out much either because it's necessary with a lot of floorplans.
Awnings and grills is going a bit too far.

I'm still wondering how in the world you're going to get the word out. IMO they're not on these forums. You think you can change all those offenders?
Perhaps Walmart would consider making us "deputy dogs".....

I have stayed at wal marts before. You might like me to stay there instead of next to you. I will get up and leave at between 5 and 6 am when I am traveling. So I will get up and walk the dogs then hook start the engine to pull in the slides and then pull out of the spot. Now I will leave it idle while I have to hook up the jeep. Now remember I pulled in at 9 pm and maybe even ten and had to back in and use lots of lights not to hit somethign ins a strange camp ground. Heck with the awnings and grill. I am only there for 6 or 7 hours. Oh and I leave at 5 to 6 am eastern time it is 4 to 5 am in the middle of the country.... Bet you would not like it if you were sleeping next to me.

Do you mean to say, walmart should ban overnight stops?
I thought it was "just a few hours".
Or like the previous post---9PM to 6AM----6-7 hours.
States I have spent the night in my current rig, bought three years ago.
Have RV'ed through 49 states and been in all 50, just short of my half-century.

Ya know - it wouldn't be difficult or intrusive if Walmart would post a list of Do's & Don'ts. Like ...
Do stay here overnight with the manager's approval
Do introduce yourself to our security guard
Do shop here if you need anything
Do clean up when you leave
Do feel free to extend a slide if necessary
Don't turn this into a campground
Don't cook outside
Dont extend awnings
etc...

The worse abuse of any Wal-Mart parking lot I have ever seen was in Whitehorse BC.. A couple three years ago. About half of the parking lot consisted of the RV's doing everything already mentioned... We, trying to be good campers (overnighters) went in and asked permission to stay the night. The mgr. said no problem.. And he didn't seem to have a problem with what was going on outside..
I still couldn't handle it (just too many) and we drove around until we found a empty lot, stayed there. With permission of course.

I would like to see Wal-Mart have a paper sign that you would pick up at the customer service area to place in your windshield or some other visible area that lists what the previous poster put up on Do & Don’ts and states that you are their with the managers approval.
Mabey something like that would stop all this bickering.
If you park in a Wal-Mart lot, Fine. If you don't, why do you object because someone else does?

Have any of you people ever discussed this with anyone at WalMart to get their take on this? I have, at length, and believe me, WalMart has no issues with us staying there. We are excellent customers both while traveling and when we're not. They have fewer security issues when campers are parked in their lots than when we're not. When it comes to silly issues like jacks and slides they have not problem as long as we're somewhat "tucked away" at the ends of the parking lot, leaving enough space for the non-camping customers.
WalMart has a great history of making money, and allowing campers to overnight is an excellent business decision for WalMart and an excellent service for the traveler - a win-win if there ever was one.
As to the long term parking issue, we didn't discuss that.
There are 24 hours in every day - it all depends on how you choose to use them.
