Year to date sales:

What sales are Tundra's beating?

Well, I look at it this way...
Tundra-64,136
1/2 ton = 64,136

GMC Sierra-91,327
1/2 ton = ? 30,442.33 ? a third?
3/4 ton = ? 30,442.33 ? a third?
one ton = ? 30,442.33 ? a third?

Ram-155,467
1/2 ton = ? 51,822.33 ? a third?
3/4 ton = ? 51,822.33 ? a third?
one ton = ? 51,822.33 ? a third?

Are those the numbers? Who knows, likely not, but apples to apples, it looks like Toyota's 1/2 ton holds it's own. If Yota had a 3/4 and one ton, would their sales look better? Would they pick up some of those 3/4 and 1 ton sales? Again, who knows and we likely never will. The economy sucks and Toyota's HD version was put on hold over a year ago.

Do you really believe that the full-size trucks sold in equal thirds? Or is this the best use of data to make up a good story? I suggest that it is!

I bet that GMC Sierra half-ton has outsold the Tundra.

Looks to me like Nissan should kill the trucks they make and that maybe Toyota should consider doing the same on the Tundra. Both make great trucks but can't be profitable at that volume...

I have a Dodge and that is the only part of Dodge this is not talked about being killed. Then again they discussed making the Dodge Trucks a seperate Ram brand.

I think Nissan is working on it SLOWLY.... no advertising, or real upgrades, it's dying a slow death.

Actually, the Titan and Tundra sold better in Oct 09 than they did in Oct 08. Ford and Dodge can't say the same. On a separate note, the Nissan Armada is up 97% this month over Oct 08. Definitely something for the manufacturers to consider as there is still quite a bit of profit in these vehicles once supply is right-sized to demand. Definitely not all bad news for both trucks.

I did hear the other day that DOT is looking into frame rust issues with the Tundra...didnt get all the details but something about the frames rusting above the spare tire.

Maybe Ford has to sell more truck then everyone else because they don't last as long as the other brands. I would rather see - for the past 5 years X amount was sold and X amount are still owned by the original buyer.

The Titan is also over 5 years old now with relatively few changes. No current owners want to trade a perfectly good truck for the same truck. Nissan also scaled back production. The Titan platform is used on all of Nissan's trucks. The only real Titan exclusive piece of hardware is the engine. Nissan is not losing money on the Titan. If they were they would not be looking at building their new commercial truck/van with the Cummins in it.

Go back and get all the details. Then report back. Hint: you're referring to an old issue on the 1st generation Tundras that's been regurgitated 1000's of times on the internet by Tundra bashers.

BTW, my old piece of junk Chevy C-20 had the same issue. But that was many years before the internet. So who knew it was a piece of junk but me?

It is my understanding that the Toyota frames with the rust problem were built right here in the US. So it would appear not to be an "import" problem.
