Would U use $6500 tax credit for current homeowners to buy new RV? Must own current home for at least 5 years.

It can't be for a vacation home, and it must be for your primary residence. So, I don't think RVs qualify.

Hi, I am reading this to mean that if you sell your long time(over 5 year)home and buy a new residence, you can take the credit. I see no reason for this to not include RV's , if that RV becomes your full time residence. Could be wrong, sure would like to see what others think about this.

Here is what the IRS says qualifies:

Any home that will be used as a principal residence will qualify for the credit. This includes single-family detached homes, attached homes like townhouses and condominiums, manufactured homes (also known as mobile homes) and houseboats. The definition of principal residence is identical to the one used to determine whether you may qualify for the $250,000 / $500,000 capital gain tax exclusion for principal residences.

It says ANY home.

As an aside, this is A REFUNDABLE TAX CREDIT, which means that you will get a check for $8,000 provided you do not owe the IRS anything.

In an email from credit union, they said in certain cases, you could use the homebuyer's credit. But we bought ours last year, so can't take advantage of it.

The government website is probably your best source of information and what you do with the information open to interpretation is up to you. http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=206291,00.html

The link you gave is for first time home buyers.

Is that what they are talking about?

Yes, for full-timers who make their RV their primary home/place of residence (providing the RV has cooking facilities, bath and toilet facilities and sleeping quarters provided.
This is in lock-step with the IRS statute that provides for 'mortgage' interest deductions on RV's when purchased/used as a vacation/second home and for those used as a primary habitat for the taxpayer.
Those that just throw out negatives from their cuff, obviously know little about IRS statutes and rulings.

No, but I might consider the $45,000 tax credit to buy a sports car.
