Does anyone know if there is an external DVD player that can be used both with a USB connection to a desktop computer, then be removed and hooked up to a TV?
I have a small book shelf stereo with dvd,cd am/fm and usb input.
I have watched movies from the dvd and listened to music from the usb input but not sure if there is video support from the usb input?
I will have to put a movie on the usb memory stick and try it!!
As I understand, you want a PC external DVD burner for use with your computer, but with A/V outputs for direct connection to your TV? A few were available some years back, but were somewhat expensive. It would be cheaper just to buy a separate DVD burner for your pc, and a separate desktop DVD player for your TV.
The more popular route today are HDD Media Players. These allow you to use them like any USB external hard drive on your computer, then hook them directly to your TV to play back HD or SD(standard definition) video files, photos, or music files without the PC. These players generally have a variety of AV outputs including HDMI, and also come with a wireless remote. Many also have connections for portable USB drives and memory cards which allow direct video and audio file playback to your TV.

The world has changed when you and I weren't looking.
I was surprised to discover that my branny new 32 inch Samsung LCD TV has a USB input.
It can be used to connect to a flash drive. The drive can contain MP3 files, Slide shows, jpeg pictures, or firmware updates. There are menu options to play or view the various files.
Don't know about a DVD player though.

my TV has a USB port but it doesn't recognize flash drives, the port is there to hook to the PC and UPDATE the TV's firmware, maybe an update would add flash drive and Multi-Media support
however my new DVD player has up scaling and will play mpeg4 and Divx files directly from disc's, no need to convert them to DVD format
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother ....
