Your engine came from the factory with a ballanced thermostat. I recommend you replace with the same style.

Hi,

I did not read all the posts above, but agree that the thermostat can be changed for about $10 if you do it yourself, or $75 if you shop around for a good mechanic that is honest.

This will normally fix the problem. If not, then get the clutch that the fan mounts to replaced. If you can hear the clutch engage once in a while during freeway driving, (or climbing mountains) then the clutch is normally working fine. If not, then it needs to be replaced. But try the thermostat first, because if it will not open, then the radiator will not heat up enough to engage the fan clutch.

You need to drain most of the coolant, and remove two bolts to replace the thermostat. Not to difficult if you know where to find it.

Good Luck,

Fred.

While I agree with replacing the thermostat, I also think the radiator needs
to be checked and internal restrictions. If the coach still has the original
radiator, it wouldn't be abnormal for it to be restricted from normal calcium
build-up the the cores.

Either way it is obstructed--change the thermostat but also flush the heck out of it. If it is clogged then hopefully that will clear it. If not then you're gonna have to remove it and take it to a rad shop. Just pray the thermostat is it or the flush works.

This won't help you now, but after you get the problem solved, one thing that will keep the raditor from being pluged is when flushing the raditor and refillig it, always refill with distilled water. this doesn't have the junk in it to clog your raditor.

On the P30 trash can build between the AC condenser and radiator which is a bad thing for sure. We did not know about our potential overheading problems until we removed the radiator to replace a water pump that was working fine but just nearly 100K miles/15 years old.

We found the trash and "seeps/weeps" that were not dripping to the ground BECAUSE of the trash. A shop can test flow rates etc easy after you pull it.

PM can pay off down the road on older MH's that are very expensive to fix after they leave their home port.

T-stat and if its had several overheating cycles a new raditor cap. Mine seem to be working fine but I was losing about 2 qaurts to a gallon after 2 hours + drives in 90 degree weather. Couldn't figure it out until I squeezed the spring in the cap and realized it wasn't 13 lbs. $5.95 for a new one.

Need to help me out on this one, because I can't see it and would like too understand. Are you saying that it was sprung so tight that it would't allow coolant into the expansion tank. This would then cause blow by somewhere else (i.e water pump weep hole?)Or are you saying that it was so light that it would just go into the expansion tank then out somehow?

Ok guys I have replaced the thermostat but have not driven the coach as of yet. Took to old thermostat home and put it in boiling water. It did not open until the water was boiling for a few seconds. Going to replace the radiator cap as well.
