"Anybody have any numbers or idea's on how many non legal or unsafe class A's are out there?????? I think quite a few. Just because we are on vacation should not mean we can't be safe".
I know one thing, when we're drivin' down the road, lookin' out the window, there are a WHOLE lot more cars/light trucks out there, that are not road worthy, than there are RV's!! Robbie

Don't suppose that would be because there are a WHOLE lot more cars/light trucks on the road than RVs?

Question??
When reading the paper or listining to the news; how many accidents are caused by macanical problems? Answer: very very few; most are driver related.
driving drunk; driving to fast; running red lights; driveing to close; the list goes on and on.
vehicle inspection is a money maker for the states and the garages. I would much rather the states take the drivers licence away from drunks the very first time they drive drunk. If they then drive without a licence, 6 months in jail would help to get the drunks off the road.
Point system would also work:12 points; lose your licence, 6 months behind bars.

I thought every state required a driving test for the larger/heavier rigs. I know PA does, had to get a class B liscense with an air brake endorsement for our new coach. Sorry to hear about the accident hope everyone recovers.

For all of us who do NOT want to bother with additional testing (and additional fees),......you have NOTHING to worry about. First of all, there is NO money. That's right, the states are BROKE,....zero dollars. Can you imagine someone asking for more state funds for additional testing,....for driving your RV? They'll get laughed off the floor. Of course, the first thing the purser will ask is, "SHOW ME THE STATISTICS?". End of story.
Actually, our senoirity has nothing to do with it. The fact is, we don't even hurt enough people to warrant our own statistic. We drive our big motorhomes sssoooo safely that we're not even on anyone's radar screen.
If you want something done, start crashing, and kill a lot of innocent people in the process. You are in competition with young drivers and low-time/marginal drivers, and drunks. And, THEY win by a GIANT margin.

Do you have your Class B for your rig (as required by the state of Texas) or are you driving it 'under the radar'? I'm pretty sure your rig has a GVWR > 26,000#.
If you can't afford the safety inspection to make sure that your brakes work, how are you going to afford to fix those brakes. I'm sorry, but I really think all states need to have an inspection to make sure lights, brakes, horns, etc. work, and for areas that need emission control, then those old smokers need to be inspected and taken off of the road if they can't pass. Not everyone is as conscientious and safety minded as you are.

I agree with you as toomany times I have heard the pro and cons on inspections,,,no mater how little or not the inspector sees its a different pair of eys looking at the MOH, My prayers go out to all

No, most do not require anything but a regular drivers license. No test, no nothing, just hop in and go.
At the risk of being kicked off...I will say what we all should be saying.
If you had a trucking company let's say Fed EX.. would you hire a man who is 72 and does not have a CDL to drive your truck?
Then why is he allowed to drive a R.V. that is almost as long as a Tractor trailer then is towing a double axle trailer that has no standards with 3 horses... 7,000 pounds.. and the trailer 4,500 pounds and going in the left hand lane...and is exceeding the max length ?
He slams into 6 cars destroying a family... and we just got word that the girl died.
So yes...go to www.dangeroustrailers.org I have copied all in this posting... and this accident could be placed on the Utility Trailer industry the R.V. Industry and people in this posting who will call me an alarmist.
We think it is about time we address why anybody can drive a R.V. with no training and tow a trailer that has no Federal Standards?
8 states do not require even safety chains.
It is the Carry On trailer corporation that has simply destroyed my family over the lack of standards for Utility Trailers just one pound under 3,000 GVWR..
Then we have people who just slap on a "FARM TAG" and you get immunity on everything.
What if someone smashed into your family with a R.V. that a person was driving going way to fast... and was simply not skilled to handle the vehicle.
Now we have a Girl that was 4 gone.... They were going to Disney World...now the family is simply destroyed.
