I am going to tow my trailer to the midwest this spring. I am on a limited budget. I have a Nissan Titan and A Zepplin 181.(see signature) The Nissan has a tow capacity of #9500 and the trailer weighs #4800. Keeping everything in weight range. Do you think I need a weight distributing hitch or sway control. How bad will it be if I don't have one. I will eventually get one but don't think I can afford it before I leave.

Thanks

The limitation on weight is the receiver on your truck. It should be rated for at least 500 lb. without a WD hitch. The trailer is not supposed to sway but if it should START swaying is a really bad time to go shopping for a means of stopping it. I'd install a friction anti sway bar as insurance against a catastrophe. You PROBABLY don't need it but do you want you and your family to "probably be safe"? Good luck / Skip

For the low cost of a friction type anti-sway bar - do it. I use one made by Reese and don't have any problems on the highways and large trucks. Well worth the investment and should work great on your rig.

The truck and trailer tow very well without anything. Like towing a pea. My truck hitch is #600 Draw Tite. The manual says the tongue weight is #460 and Oh!! I just looked at the trailer weights combined dry and carrying capacity is #3800. I just looked at Camping World and they have an eaz-lift for $59.00 Now that is doable. Reese is about $139.00. What is the difference between right and left? Do I need to have it installed professionally?

Thanks again

I would ask what it would cost to have it installed at CampingWorld. However if you are mechanically inclined then I doubt it would be all that complicated.

You may also want to look at Craigslist to see if there is anything in your area.

Simple to install yourself. If you know how to use a tape measure, drill & wrench it can be done quickly. Left & right are just that, left side or right side mount. I went with left side so I could take it off without having to step over the tongue or walk around the truck. The majority seem to be mounted on the right but it also depends on what might be in the way where you need to mount it.

IMO if you tow without sway control keep speed under 45 mph. Yes, I am serious.

WDH less important, but be careful to not get front wheels on TV too light so steering suffers. Ok as long as you don't fill TV with stuff.

That is 600# capacity is for the hitch itself; you need to find out what the tongue weight capacities are for the truck.

if you added that hitch to your truck, then your max tow weight is not 9,500 lbs since you don't have the "Big Tow" package. No worries you are still under the tow weight for the non- Big tow Titans.
