This is an LP unit. It has become very hard to start, but runs fine once it does. The interesting thing is that it will start almost immediately if I place my hand over the air inlet for about 1 second. If it were a gasoline engine, this would be the equilivent of using the choke. By the way, the throttle operates like it's suppose to when you first try to start it ---- it opens wide open. But, it will not catch unless I place my hand over the intake for just a second.

I read on some other threads that there is a line coming from a regulator that dirt dobbers cans close off with mud and will cause this same symptom. I don't see any line anywhere on mine coming from underneath. Maybe it's under the cover?

Thanks,
Darryl

Check for the vent line at the regulator. I have had many standby units with this problem. Wasp do like to build nest.

Is the regulator built into the solenoid valve? If not, I'm not exactly sure where it is. The line coming off the tank does not have a regulator on it (for the generator). The other line going to the stove and inside appliances has a visible regulator, but I'm not having a problem with those.

If your unit has pipes around the exhaust manifold. It should be on the back side near the front. You may need to remove the top cover to check. If you have the vapor system it is mounted on a plate with the shutoff solenoid. Looks like a small pancake.

is your genset liquid or vapor withdraw? if liquid withdraw you may have some oil building up in the regulator. if liquid withdraw you need to change it over to vapor to stop oil migration before it causes problems

see the oil filter? look on the opposite side of the generator and you will see a small hole where the top and side meet just under the where the screws hold them together.

there should either be a nipple sticking out or a small circle with small holes in it that is the vent for the regulator make sure these are clean.

my propane 6.3 kw is hard starting in damp weather .. last time i used it was in sept at galveston... a rainy weekend.. took forever to ketch.. but never grind the starter endless... give it a break ... crank for no more then 30 seconds at atime with a minuite in between trys.

well once started, its warm and that drives off moisture. runs as it should i hvent tried to change plug wires but the sympthems are shoting wires.

some times when it starts it runs very roughly.. so i let it run for one minute then shut off. i let it rest for two or three minutes for the engine heat to drive off moisture. then i start it and it runs good from then on.

when u play in the sand .... you can get stuck

Thanks everyone! As soon as the monsoon rains stop here, I'll get back in there and try to find it.
