Hi all, I have a Nomad 252 Scout. The current location for the tv is in a corner cabinet opening over the dinnet. I am wanting to get a wall mount for it and plan to keep it in the same location. I plan to get one from Ebay. Most of the ones for the 10" to 20" tv are single stud mounts. Will that be enough support for it? I think I can come up with a way to mount it in there even though there isn't a stud in that location.
I could use some advice on this one.....Thank you all....John
I would not recommend at all toggle bolts to mount any thing as heavy as a tv. in these walls of an r.v. Thinking of the constant pull of that weight, the bouncing pressure of that weight while on the road. Especially if you were to purchase a tv. extend able mount.. No, No.
Buy your self a good stud finder. One that was a gift from my son that works very well on the walls of our rv,s !!! Is the, Stanley intelli Sensor Pro (Walmart has them) it has the power to measure wall thickness in segments at settings of some material, 1/2", 1", and 1 1/2". Measure the width of your mount add 1 1/2". Then find two wall studs and mark them. Ether buy a board or have someone cut you a board the length spanning the outside of the two stud locations. Stain & coat, or paint to suite, counter sink screws, at least 2 screws, into each of the ends into these studs. Since you are a tax payer, you local school's wood shop class could help you in this. May be routing a trim pattern on the board edges. Red or White Oak is a good chose, for strength and since that is the imitation that most camper use.
A note here, if that board extends out further than you would like or need, in finding that wall stud. Think of what else you might need or like to hang on the extended part in that area----clock, key holders, picture, towels, decorative hot pads, small shelf support....
We are currently in the process of doing the same thing. We went out and bought a thick strong board, found the studs with the stud finder, attached the board on the studs, then attached the mount to that. This is what we bought http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=4480
I decided to take the one of the cabinet doors off and mount a piece of 1" X 6" and mount the swing arm to that. This way I actually end up with more usable cabinet space. The old TV hole on the right can be used for the stuff I use to carry in the cabinet. Here are a couple pictures of what I did. this is what I did
