I am having a problem with my electric Awning (Dometic One Step electric awning without wind sensor). I cannot roll up the awning with out stopping and waiting about 5 min to continue to roll Awning up.
House batteries are in good condition. If awning is wet, it takes even longer if at all to roll up. I think my electric motor is about ready for the trashcan.
I contacted Dometic and they will sell me a new torque bar (mine is out dated) and motor, but will not send any illustration or direction as to how to replace motor or torque Bar. They claim too much liability if I get hurt (Safety and I understand their position).
The engineering staff will not takes calls or give directions.
With out going to a dealer is there anyone out there that can instruct as to how to change the torque bar as well as Electric motor?

Walter, I can't help with installation, but I was having similar problems with mine and it turned out to just need some lubrication at some of the arm pivot joints. A couple shots of WD40 and working it into the joints and all works like a new one. - Tony

OOPS - Didn't read real well - had written a tribute about Shade Pro in El Cajon, CA as being a wonderful Carefree dealer - then re-read the OP's post re a Dometic issue.
Sorry - But if in med of great Carefree service, Shade Pro is the place to contact.

Mine didn't roll up well right from the very start. The dealer installed it and tapped into a lamp by the door for power. Bad place to get power.

I redid the wiring and also lubricated all the moving parts. The awning works correctly now.

I have an electric One Step awning without wind sensor. Started having problems such as you describe back in 2002 when it was new. Tiffin in Red Bay said the problem was that the motor should have been packed with dielectric grease (to keep out moisture), but it wasn't. Tiffin packed it with grease - end of problem. A couple of years ago the awning quit working again. Motor was shot. My original motor was external to the awning roller. New motors are inside the awning roller and hence better protected from weather. I had Tiffin install new motor and new tension rod. This isn't a job for an amateur, believe me.
Pre-tensioning the rod is tricky indeed and can be really dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Hope this info helps you with your decision.
