I am wondering how nice this place is for camping. We want to go for Thanksgiving, and wondering if we need reservations. Any other suggestions for full hookups with a 5th wheel trailer.
since it's a holiday, you might should make reservations if full hookups are really important to you.
if not, the other campground is adjacent to the full hookups and probably won't be full.
the campground has a great view of the sierras to the west.
no shade trees, but you won't need them in late Nov. probably.
Gravel, sand parking lot campground.
There is a motel and store and maybe a snack bar or cafe.
If the fly boys are flying runs out of China Lake, they might come flying over late in the evenings... but won't do it all night long.

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.
The hook up camp at Stove pipe wells is operated by a private enterprize and is first come first serve. They only have about 20 sites and they fill up pretty fast, especially over Thanksgiving and Christmas and new years. There is another camp just behind it that is also first come first served operated by the National park service but has no hook ups, but a dump and fresh water are available. The Camp at Furnace creek takes reservation but also has no hookups. It is probably full up for the holiday. (Recreation.gov is the reservation site)
There is a camp acrosss from Furnace creek that is like a parking lot, but there again, no hookups and first come first serve. There is a full hook up park ouside the valley in the panamint springs area on Hwy 190, but then to see Death valley you would have to drive over Towne pass to get to the valley, about 30 miles just to get to stovepipe wells.
There are also limited full-hookups at Furnace Creek at the resort but nothing to write home about. We stayed there one night only because we had paid before looking.
There's another very nice campground at the northern end of DV, about 5 miles or so from Scotty's Castle that no one ever mentions when talking about DV campgrounds...Mesquite Spring. It, too, is first-come, first-served, and has no hookups, but does have a dump and fresh water.
