We decided it's time to beachcomb a few days on Sanabel Island, FL. It doesn't look like there is any campground on the island, but a couple of campgrounds are nearby. The two I'm looking at are Red Coconut and San Carlos RV. Red Coconut is very pricy, so San Carlos is my top contender. Any experiences or other suggestions? We have a 24' MH so not too worried about tight parking.
Red Coconut is pricy and the sites are pretty tight. If you don't have pets, you may want to check out Periwinkle Park and Campground. They don't allow pets. It is on the island, but not directly on the beach - about a mile away or a 5 minute bike ride. There are bike paths all over the island and it is the preferred mode of transportation as the main road gets congested during the season. The park is very neat and clean with good space between the sites.
They do have a campground on Sanibel. It isn't much. I think the name is Periwinkle Park. As soon as you come onto the island and turn right on the main drag (Periwinkle Way) it is on your left. The RV section is a small field with a few trees in the middle of a regular trailer park. It was full hookup. You aren't on the beach but in the center of the island. You are on the island and can bike from your campsite to see things, but that is about it. Nothing fancy in my opinion.
Sorry that I can't help you with the other sites you mentioned.
We are at Indian Creek about 8 miles from Sanibel and about 4 miles from Fort Myers Beach. We are here for Oct. Nov an Dec on the $1000.00 for three months special. Don't know what it goes to in Jan.
We've stayed at Indian Creek and really liked the park in November and December. In January the prices go up big time. I wouldn't want to stay in that area after Christmas. So much traffic it's hard to get up to the beach and when finally there no parking. Outside the park there is a bus that will take you to the beach and take your chairs.
