Hi,
Has anyone used an apartment sized stacked washer / dryer in their r/v? Are there any down sides to this idea other than loss of some storage space?

At least one Sears unit, a 120 volt model, will only allow the use of one appliance at a time. You cannot wash and dry at the same time. The big plus is that these units are known for their reliability and can be serviced by most any appliance repair.

I would check on the requirements for a residential unit being moved, many if not all are supposed to have the motor/transmission in the washer tied down when being moved. They are not designe dto bounce down the road, since except in CA they generally don't move while installed in your stick house!

Most residential driers are 230v/30A. RV's have 120v.

Add to the 220volt requirement and the motor tie down while being moved, they have to be perfectly flat while being used. That's fine in a stick house, but might pose problems in a coach that gets moved.

I have the whirlpool washer and dryer with the stack kit they work very well. They are not 220 volt and do not come apart because they move down the road. If you need size info or model numbers PM and I will get back to you. These were a part of the original MH equipment.

This was one of the requirements for our new motorhome -- the DW HATED the Splendide in our Bounder, and LOVES the stacked whirlpool units in our Newmar.
It is 120 Volts, and works very well.

Got a residential combo now for three years-no problem! Had stack W/D in my boat for 10 years(actually was in the bow of the boat)traveling as far as South America-no problem. The "bouncing" in a motorhome is minimal compared to a boat.
