Quote: I'm going to be spending the summer at a wildlife
refuge
You must be working for or volunteering for the refuge to want to be there.
If so, have the refuge sign a contract with you, that they will pay for all repairs needed to your RV, done by the mice or rats there.
Hmmm ... it's worth a try. I'll be volunteering.

Toad green 2001 Honda CRV/Blue Ox towing system
Steer-Safe stabilizer and Bilsteins all around
Give them something that's more attractive to them to eat besides the wires------------put some D-con packets on the engine or anywhere near a clump of wires. Of course, you'll want to the packets out of sight of the reserve's management.
When rodents eat the D-con, they will shortly start feeling its affects and go looking for a source of water, so they won't be dieing near your MH (unless you leave a dish of water out for pet).

The refuge won't let me use poison ... that's part of the problem. I also have two little dogs, and if any of that poison got on the ground ... well, that's too hard to think about.
Since you'll be living in your RV, the little critters, should they get in, will most likely stick to the cabinets, and out of site, so traps of any kind can be placed in those areas.

Oh, I'm still fighting that battle from my last volunteer gig ....
You can buy bottles of fox urine, that might keep them away if they think there is a predator around.
Seems to me that there are a lot of voluteer jobs out there at the parks right now, with the economy being the way it is. You might want to get a different one.
i love wildlife & these area's, but i also hunt & fish, and believe in protecting my property & health,
I would set death traps inside my RV ( no poison ) and then quietly depose of the bodies, the predators that hunt them will appreciate the free meal, they will not be wasted and there are more than enough of them, they breed profusely to match or exceed the existing food supply
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother ....
