Maybe someone in the campground (with experience) would be willing to help. I've done it on a number of occasions ...

In the interest of being a helpful guy let me tell you guys a couple things. I called FOUR Radio Shack places and they more or less said "get lost". I then called TWO Best Buy stores and they very nicely told me the same thing.
I then called my friends at Direct TV and they told me the same thing today as they did yesterday: sorry pal, you're on your own. You might want to call Wingard.
I then drove to TWO RV places in Apache Junction AZ and they were as clueless as I am regarding WHICH antenaa etc.
So....my point is: before you think this is going to be an easy deal, think again!! Ha. I have THREE Direct TV HD boxes in my house, one ois on the road with me. At the moment they are all metallic junk.
I don't want to appear to be a smart ass fellas, but this just
AIN'T as easy as you think!!

seatboard wrote: Recently,I ran into the same thing while in Pensacola, FL. I called directv and they gave me the same answer. I have had success doing it my self before, But this time, I got 100 percent signal on the satelites but no picture. We returned home and next day, tried TV and zap, had all the channels as before leaving home. You hooked into a dish network satelite thats why it says 100 percent move the dish a few degrees left or right and youll find directs channels....you might have to move a little more to get locals....provided you are in range Jim K

A few final thoughts: I finally did what I should have done in the second place, following the total lack of interest on the part of Direct TV. I called Wingard myself. Helpful people gave me model #s of just what I needed and then gave me an 800 number to call. The folks there put the parts and some helpful instructions on the UPS truck this morning and told me to call immediately if I have any trouble. I should have done this three days ago..
I re-learned a lesson I was taught years ago: go to the source and quit screwing around with the disinterested, uninformed and half-assed! Ha!!
Thanks for all the comments. But again, be advised fellas, that some of this stuff is not as simple as it would first appear.
And, while your pals at Direct TV are more than happy to gobble up your hard earned money, they can't take a minute of THEIR time to even give you a local phone contact for help.

Am waiting for my package of stuff, which will include a satellit finder, neccessary coax cable etc. I will keep you posted, but most of the high drama has already occured. I have located signals in the past with smaller dishes etc, and the guys I talked with said I would not have that much problem, since I understand satellite and the concept etc.
We old sourdough Alaskans were using satellites a looong time back,; before a lot of peopel even knew what they were and how they worked.
Thanks fellas. Gotta stop now.
