Less noise = larger unit and More $$$$.

Aside from the occassional bearing noise, mose of the noise is the flame and the air movement.

My furnace is quiet compared to the heat pump however it's still plenty noisy. The furnace noise is mostly air movement while the heat pump noise is compressor. The oil filled electric heater is the quietest of them all which is why I use it the most.

if you do a search, with in the last month, some one had a link to click on to a site that told you how to make your furnace quiet down.

Mine was very noisy and no amount of tinkering would quiet it down. I yanked it and replaced it with a catalytic heater that fit in the same space. I use a small (quiet) fan to circulate the warm air.

Both our 36' Carriage (now gone thanks to a falling tree, sigh!) and our 29' CarriLite 5'ers are very very quiet as was our previous 1980's model Carriage. You actually have to listen to hear the furnace blower's running or for the furnace gas burner's sound. It's located under the refrigerator in the CarriLite and across from the refrigerator in the 36". Both are below the inside pad and carpet covered floor in the basement area and have insulation around them. The cold air return has an "S" curve in the duct before going in to the furnace which stops a lot of the blower sound I'm quite sure. There's also a standard home furnace filter on the back side of the living space cold return screen. May block a lot more of the sound. So simple to get at the filter to clean and/or replace. OF course, neither Carriage nor CarriLite are entry level or low cost RVs and that's probably why the extra steps were taken to make them quieter. Maybe you really do get what you pay for?

We lived in a 27' RK 5er one winter while the house was being built. The furnace was extremmly noisey. The motor had sealed bearing. The problem was it fan sat just behind the kitchen cabinet with nothing but a grill between you and the fan. You could see the fan cage with the grill removed.

I noticed it was open under the cabinets on the floor all around heater and had no partitions. It was open down the side and across the rear kitchen. I cut a piece of cardboard to cover the grill from the back which pulled air in all down the side and across the rear of the bottom kitchen cabinets. I made sure the blower had more than enough return air. That cut noise about 80 percent.

Now if your hearing a viberation it could be bearings but if its just fan noise its normal. Roof mount A/C with a direct return have the same situation.

If it is a vibration noise, you might have a mud dauber in it. I had a used 5th that had a very noisy furnace and it vibrated. Then furnace stopped working because fan was locked up. I took it apart and found out that a mud Dauber nest had come loose from the combustion fan and it jambed up blower. Both blowers run by same motor. After I evicted the mud dauber, it ran smooth as silk.

My current 5th has a rumbling sound when it runs. I presume it is the burner needs to be adjusted, but can not find any information on how to do that.
