We don't travel much, we keep a 5th wheel because DH is a contract engineer, so occasionally we leave home base and have to work another location for a year or two, so the unit pretty much stays parked.

We have a 2004 CedarCreek that's been great, and we may keep it, but we're also tossing around upgrading to a better insulated unit, as we're about to spend the next 20 months or so down in New Orleans. HOT!

Excel was high on my list before, but I know some companies have gone out of business and I'd sure like to know what units are built well with great customer service. Forest River has always been super to work with in our opinion.

If you're happy with your Cedar Creek, why not throw another 13.5 or 15K A/C on the roof and keep it! And some 3M window films can reduce the sun's heat by 78% and the UV sun damage by 98%...keeping your rv much cooler!

We have two a/c units already. 15 amp in the living area, 13.5 amp in the bedroom. We found that without shade in AR, we can't stay cool in the summer. We'll be going to New Orleans, so I KNOW we can't stay cool without shade there.

No objective information here. Try www.rv.org for the RV Consumer Group which rates most of the RV's out there using their own criteria.

Excel is still in business and still builds a nice unit. There was a review of their new floorplan in Trailer Life either last month or the previous month. Very nice. Other respected brands are Nuwa (who is back in production now after a hiatus), Carriage and Doubletree aka DRV.

Which is best ?? Its whatever brand the poster owns.

I would look at each manufacture web site for the latest offerings. Models change from year to year. See the RV manufactures

As fulltimers with a capable truck, we would look for a large, sturdy, well insulated fiver. We've looked at Doubletree, New Horizon, SpaceCraft, Carriage, Excel, Teton and Newmar - all currently in business. We wouldn't rule out any other brand that met our requirements. Now we have to come up with the money - or we just keep the rig we have and love. Our current rig has held up very well and looks to last many more years.

Mobile suites have 3 1/4 inch side walls with R-15 and I think the roof and floor are R-27. I don't own one of these. I have a Cedar Creek.
