Leaving Monday...DW would like to camp along the coast.
Want to get south of Portland (weather conditions).
We are in no hurry.

Question:
Take highway 6 to Tillamook (to get some of that cheese!!)
Take highway 99w to Lincoln City
Take highway 22 to 18 - Newport
Take highway 126 to Florence

Or any other suggestion would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks,

Len, Rebecca & MacDuff

Duty free shopping on the Anacortes Ferry is fun. If you enjoy getting good bottles and a considerable discount from LCB in Canada, off 50 and 100 dollar canadian bills for purchases. They offer a discount plus give you your change in US Dollars...quite the savings.

Going south, camp in Victoria overnight at the dock, phone the ferry to find out how to do it for free, when to show up and such.

I would suggest taking Highway 26 to Seaside. Visit Seaside then head south on US 101.

To get the most enjoyment of the OR coast, from Portland take 26 to Seaside then follow 101 all the way. Any of the OR state parks along 101 will havew space available this time of year except, perhaps, on weekends. Enjoy!

It's cold/frosty here near the summit of the coast range, about 10 m N of 26. Watch for icy spots, but no snow, and it's not raining (currently!). Any of the passes should be fine - but remember, black ice is invisible. If the temp is below freezing (9:30 AM and 29 here), assume there are slick patches. Check the trip check site here:

Want to add (and too lazy to edit), took a trip down 101 a week ago, business, but checked out a few SP's that I may want to stay at in the future, and found that this time of year, many of the parks have some campground loops closed, probably for ease in maintaining with smaller crews. Most parks were open and empty though, and this was a Tuesday.

Just returned home this afternoon from our first trip (8 weeks) to Oregon. We took Hwy 432 at Longview, WA and then crossed the Columbia River on HWY-433 and then Hwy-30 to the coast at Astoria and stayed at Fort Stevens SP. Then down 101 to San Diego. Still soaking in all that we saw and will start organizing the 100's of pictures. Check out the Maritime Museum in Astoria and eat at the Bouy 9 next to Fort Stevens SP. Great prime rib on the weekend.

First let me assure you that Hwy 6 is a good 2-lane road that, as you stated, ends in Tillamook. Once at Tillamook, the other towns you mentioned can be reached by simply traveling south on Hwy 101.
If you have time, be sure to visit the Tillamook State Forest Visitor Center located on Hwy 6 about 30 miles before you reach Tillamook. They have many fine displays and history about the infamous Tillamook burns that occurred at 6 year intervals. Most of Hwy 6 traverses a very healthy new growth forest.
So far as I know, the campgrounds in the Tillamook Forest are already closed for the winter. I don’t know about the state parks on the coast.

Sorry to disagree with everyone. Drop off of I5 at Longview,WA cross the bridge and take hwy30 to Astoria. Stay at Ft Stevens state park. Next night you could stay at Netarts bay RV park. We will be there this week for 4 days.
Next night stay at either Beverley beach state park or South beach state park. Both only a few miles outside of Newport. Next best is Winchester Bay RV park. Next best place south bound is Brookings harbor RV park. Then you are into California. Depending on how far south on US101 you want to go, either take hwy20 from Ukiah back to I5 or continue farther south and join back to I5 just north of San Francisco. Those are a only a few of the wonderful state and private parks available to you in Oregon.

Another vote for Hwy 30 from Longview to Astoria. Donn has some great suggestions, here are a few more. Cannon Beach RV is a great place in the winter with an indoor pool and hot tub. Cape Lookout SP is one of my favorite places of all time. You really can't go wrong with any of the state parks on the coast. Sunset Bay, Honeyman, and Harris SP's are a few more great choices along the way.
