Wondering if any gas pumps in the US are capable of accepting the "chip & pin" credit cards yet, instead of having to enter a zip code?........mainly interested in the western states.....
Thanks for replies

We have not seen them down there yet, but the US is often behind in these kind of things. What I have heard about that, but not tried yet is to put your zip code in as just the numbers in your postal code followed by two zeroes. It is supposed to work!

Yes, I do the postalcode numbers followed by 00 and it works.
Example - V3A 2E2 code - enter 32200 and it works for me on the West coast.

In our last two years and over 20,000 towing miles, had to enter my zip code three times. Two on eastern side of Mississippi, once west of it. BUT, we tend to take the old numbered highways, not Interstates. Maybe that's why?

For the first time in six years I skipped the credit card and payed cash.
I got pretty good at pre-paying close to the exact amount needed to fill the tank.
I can always use the short walk to stretch my legs.

From what I gather, the answer is probably no. It appears that the US has no plans at all for moving to the chip and pin technology. Once again, unfortunately, we are going in opposite directions.
As far as encountering the Zip code thing, we have from coast to coast in the US. In south Florida now it's almost impossible to find a gas station does not require it.

Interesting. I've found very few pumps that require the zip code.

My nephew has a US Postal address (lives in BC) - contacted
Visa yesterday and they said "no problem"-gave the address.(not for mail).
Visa was not happy with leaving the card at the desk -unattended.
At a station in Utah they misplaced the card. The clerk put the card
in his/her jacket by mistake and went on their break.
Will try it out next week when we leave for Arizona. If there is a
problem,he gave me a phone number for advice.

I like to pretty much get a full tank, so I have used my trip "gals used", divided it by the price I see at the pump when I pull up, then pay cash, but it means a calculation yadda yadda.....a pain when the pump island is busy & people lined up and impatient......still like to use my C/C the best.....I fully understand the need for increased security with all the "gas & run" and C/C theft happening....it is no different here in BC.......guess there are more dishonest people in the west!!!.... I haven't found near as much security at the pumps in the north eastern USA or eastern CAnada........
Thanks for the replies
