The toilet in my motorhome isn't holding water for more than a couple of hours anymore. What should we look for to identify cause/repair?
Thanks for your help.

Debris is the gasket area of slide valve.
Thetford has tool called bent screw driver to clean groce. You can make one out of coat hanger type wire. Bend about one inch 90 degree bend on one end. Turn off water, hold slider valve open, insert short end into groove. Move around seal area with gentle force.
Can also use round about 3 inch diameter toilet brush to clean groove area in similar movement.

Could just have toilet paper stuck in area where it closes. Rinse it out with water. Could have dryed gaskets, add a little dish soap every month, and it gets softer, and seals better. Just put soap in when it has water above the drainerand it will get to the gaskets as it leaks or is flushed down.

I always try the EASY stuff first. Try lubricating the rubber O ring that seals the toilet with a little petroleum jelly. If that works, problem solved. Good luck / Skip

Mine does the same thing every so often, it just needs a good cleaning. I use Scrubbing Bubbles. Turn off water, open valve to get rid of any standing water, spray with cleaner- use quite a bit, go have a beer and let it sit for about 5 minutes and use 3 inch round scrubber. You may have to do twice. This has worked for me. Have fun. Kevin

Cleaning it usually works, but I have had to replace the seal. They sell a kit for it.

If its a theford with the ball shut off valve, you can remove the top portion of the toilet and remove the rubber gasket, clean the calcium deposit off of it and replace it and your good to go for quite a while. We fulltime and I have to do this about once a year or so.

Mine had calcium deposits built up on the seal. Took apart and cleaned, then reinstalled, worked OK.

If cleaning and vaseline don't work, try slamming the flapper closed a few times hard. That was what finally worked for me.
