Hi All

Looking for my first 5th wheel. This has aluminum walls and wood roof trusses. Is that a problem. I want to stay under 25K. Looking at the Copper Canyon model 298FWBHS. Is this a decent model? What are the most important construction things to look at in a fidth wheel. I have a 2008 Dodge Mega 6.7l Diesel to pull with.

Thanks

Check out the Nu Wa web site, they have a good video that talks about construction, wood and aluminum.
The Nu Wa is a high end unit but the video is good info to have when looking at other rigs.

we have a copper canyon and do like the camper, just wanted to mention that the frame/general construction seems fine but the fit and finish on the inside lacks a lot. their quality control lacks a lot though it may be improved now, ours is a couple of years old.

I would second the Crossroads Cruiser line. They have all alum. construction, walls, roof truss and floor joists. The floors/roof/walls are framed 16" OC, just like your home. The walls have fiberglass batts and there is additonal insulation via astrofoil reflective sheets in the floor/roof/walls. Also, they don't use OSB, they use plywood decking on the roof and main living areas.

There are many floorplans, great units, longer warranty then most (2+5 years) and great owner's forum.

Good luck, we looked at the Copper Canyon but a few things I didn't like were the fit/finish, low R-value and they use OSB decking (personal choice).

I don't know who makes copper canyon but don't buy the cheapest and lightest - the most important things aren't visible. The two worst problems we had with our first entry level 5er was the weak frame (flexing tore up the front end) and there was no vapor barrier under the alum. siding and wind blow right thru that thing and there were also countless other quality issues.
