I never buy extended warranties. Obviously some people do, I prefer to self insure and it has worked out well so far. You will need to decide for yourself.

I will say that you don't need to decide immediately. You can buy an extended warranty anytime in the future. The company your dealer represents is not the only company out there. You can probably buy it later for at least $500 less.

If you are wanting to add it into financing, well that is just plain crazy. Why would anyone pay interest on a warranty that won't even take effect until in the future when the manufacturer's warranty expires?

Since the dealer is making money selling the policy I'd tell the manager/owner I'll buy it if you'll give me your home address and phone number. Then when he asks why tell him, with a mad crazy man look on your face, 'cause I'm coming after you and taking my loss out of your rear end if I get ripped off on this extended warranty deal!! See if he's still as anxious to sell it after that.

We had to make this decision ourselves just over a month ago, the warranty sure sounds nice, we said no thank you. I would do as others have suggested, put the $2000 in a bank account maybe even gain some interest on it and find yourself a reliable RV service center nearby.

We looked into our service choices prior to purchasing, we have 1 mom and pop RV service center in town that other family members have gone to for over 20 years and we have another mobile mechanic that friends have used in town that will come to our home or storage lot.

Goodluck!

Generally I never purchase extended warranties any more. I too felt I had been ripped off on extended auto warranties in the past that failed to cover repairs I thought should have been covered. With that said.

From a dealer and people we know with our Wildcat we had purchased an extended coverage called Travel Trailer Plus Platinum Guard in Apr 04 and kicked in after the Forest River warranty. Primarily because that is what they had on their own camper. In 2004 it cost just under $800 for coverage. Several weeks ago on a trip to the Gulf Coast our Dometic refrig died. We had never even used the card we received but in Rockport, Tx Michelle in the service department of Camper Clinic asked if we had a warranty. Told her we had a policy but I thought it had expired. She said get her the policy number and said she would call and find out. I was going to have to replace it regardless and set up an appointment for the next morning. She call that afternoon while I was fishing that they would cover the replacement of the cooling unit but if I wanted to pay the difference of putting a whole new frig it was OK. The best option for us was to pay the differential and have a new unit. Note: cooling unit (90 day warranty) and new unit (up to three years with provisions warranty) Thanks again to everyone who helped us Camper Clinic to keep our vacation on tract.

I know there are too many cases where individuals get taken. Our policy doesn't cover minor repairs but the major components. Like someone has already suggested read what is covered and not covered to decide if it is right or worth the cost for you. It is critical to know if these repairs can be made any where or only at specific locations or dealers.

Just make sure you know what you are getting and the requirements.
And unlike me when it expires.

Some finance companies won't finance unless there is some sort of extended warranty.

I have had Good Sam ESP on the trailer for several years now and have had two claims that have paid for themselves. One was paid in full, large claim, and the other one they paid 1/2 on and that was to replace all the springs, shackles and hangers that were either broken or cracked and the trailer was riding on the axle.
There was never any hassle and the repair shop said that they have had very little problems with them turning down claims..I am also in no way involved with them, just a happy customer.

I have never heard of financing being denied because you did not purchase a extended warranty. Are they the ones selling the warranty also?

What's the chance of needing $2000 worth of repairs on a TT? Very slim.

What's the chance of needing $2000 worth of covered repairs? Extremely rare. The deal is so simple - it is NOT an extended warranty. It is a service contract and while it may appear to cover everything, you can be sure that there are carefully worded exclusions that allow the company to deny a wide range of common claims.
