I want to stay in Vancouver this summer and I have two small dogs. What Rv parks do you recommend? Also Alice PP is nearby. Is it worth going there instead?

Hello SweetLou,
I live in the Vancouver area, I have a few questions for you and I will answer some of what you posted. Have you been to Vancouver before?
Do you want to park in an urban RV park allowing close access to Vancouver City and the tourist stuff, or are you ok in the suburbs?
Do you want a wilderness type camping with your RV or just a place to park close by?
Hook ups?
Most of the commercial or privately owned RV parks, resorts and campgrounds will have hook ups. Most of the parks will not. Dogs are usually welcome with a fairly strict leash requirement.
As you may know, Alice lake provincial park is a wilderness park about 1 hour from Vancover actually located just outside Squamish.
The drive along the coast is very scenic.
For urban/suburban RV park next to the neighbourhood houses. I can offer the following Links
Supercamping-list from lodging camping Assn.
Google search of Van RV parks
You can reserve a spot in most provincial parks, not all require or take reservations. Alice Lake is very popular, I would suggest the reservaton if that is your choice. check out the BC parks site too as it has non reserved camping.
after April reservation site.
Please post or Private message me if you like and we can figure out what might work for you. Lots of stuff more to discuss as you guide this.
Cheers,
Rob

We stayed at Fort Camping in Fort Langley last May and enjoyed it. The drive into Vancouver is not far. A picture of our site is available here.
One place I would avoid is ParkCanada RV Park in Tsawwassen. Very tight and not even enough room for an awning.

Looks like somethingfishy will be a great help to you. I suggest you say how long you intend to be there. There is Vancouver then the Lower Mainland and Whistler. If you can park your rig and do driving excursions you can see it all. I would start in the Fraser Valley, which is your approach. Enjoy a day or two then move in closer to the greater vancouver area, enjoy 5 mins (just kidding) couple of days then move towards the Squamish/Whistler area and spend more days there. With more time and $$$ you can go back to Horseshoe Bay and ferry over to Nanaimo and enjoy Vancouver Island where the beeches are fabulous. Enjoy

Thank you all for responding. My wife and 14 yr old boy will be in Vancouver for the first time in July around July 14. We can only do 6 days. We want to visit the city and take in sights while enjoying the wilderness. I like PP, however 1hr drive each way maybe a bit long if verything we do is in the city. We want to go visit Victoria, and possibly stay overnight at a pet friendly hotel. We will rent a small car to take the ferry over because I don't think Victoria is Dually Truck friendly for parking. Urban Rv parks is nice, however I don't want rustic and we will need hook ups for the 6 days unless we minus the days for the Victoria trip. I will PM somethingfishy to get maybe more specific, but I do welcome everyone's thoughts here. Thank you all for helping me and have a blessed Christmas.

You have pretty aggressive plans for 6 days! If you want to see Vancouver then the only place to stay is Capilano. Vancouver traffic can be a bear but Capilano is close enough to everything that you don't have to do much driving. If you want wilderness & Vancouver then plan to spend at least three hours driving to get from one to the other.
Our fulltime address is Chilliwack and we actively avoid going into Vancouver but when we used to visit we just sucked it up and paid the price to stay at Capilano. Even in the worst traffic you can be downtown in half an hour from there. Coming in from Langley or Burnaby can be stop and go all the way.

geeez...people go to New York for five and six days...it's not a BIG city by most standards and you'll have no trouble getting your stuff done. As far as Victoria..if you are just wanting to go into the city and sightsee for a day? take the bus. Downtown-downtown. The ferry is very big vehicle friendly but for one day, it's pricey, eh.
If you can boondock? I have like..the most perfect spot, close to the Skytrain, etc. It's right on the Fraser River at a city park, but on a quiet street, not IN the park. No restrictions. Read my lips/typing...free.

I don't think visiting a city in 6 days is aggressive. We want to spend some time visiting and to take in what we can in the amount of time we have. This is why I started this post in the first place was to get ideas and thoughts like yours. We will see the must stuff of course. What we miss will do another time. The Rv park you mentioned (Capilan) have their noses in the air and do not want to see a pet of any kind. I can understand size and breed conditions but come on get real. I hope they loose their shirts over it. What about people that travel with indoor cats? Pathetic if you ask me. I will take into account the traffic. I didn't know it was that bad.

Read the whole post. They want to see Vancouver & wilderness & Victoria in 6 days. That's an aggressive agenda. IMHO.

Guys,
Let's behave here. I may have given everyone the wrong idea. I don't see how this is an aggressive agenda. Example; you camp in the wilderness (1hr away) you go into the city, then tour stuff. You head back to camp and take in wilderness. Next day you make a run to Victoria and stay the night. Third day you come back to the city, visit somemore stuff and go back to camp for wilderness. Day 4 you repeat Day 1. Day 5 you can just stay and take in wilderness or mix and match like day 1. Not really a problem guys. Its like a buffet, you sample a ,little bit of everything.
