We have had directv in our new motor home, it has a dish on top. we were camped in Eugene OR and got a picture with directv, now we are in Vancouver,WA and can not get a picture. It tells us we have a weak sign/no signal. There is nothing blocking our signal, called Directv and they had me try a couple of things but nothing worked. Does any one have a suggestion of what to try?

Any rain or snow in the area? This will interfere with reception. Are you between mountains, in a valley? Same thing.

Did Directv take you through using the signal strength feature? Is the dish pointed to the satalite? Are you in an area that has others recieving Directv? Give is more information.

Give more info !
Like,...do you know how to aim a dish, or are you depending on automatic doing it for you ? Have you changed any connections etc etc.

We have Dish 500 and have occasionally had to call the Dish techs for help - Sometimes we get a tech who can't help us - sometimes we get a tech who knows less than us - when that happens and it becomes obvious that we are getting nowhere, we thank them - hang up and call again - we never get the same tech twice - not only are you not getting the same tech you are probably not even getting the same country - the 2nd tech almost always is successful - SOMETIMES YOU CAN BE IN A PLACE WHERE THERE IS NO SIGNAL - check with other campers around you that have Direct - Bob

One thing I advise folks with a roof-mounted antenna to do is get a switch, A common A/B antenna switch (about 2 bucks at the google store)

You unhook the lead to the LNB in on the sat receiver and hook it to "A"

You run a nice new RG-6 cable to a Bulkhead or basement or, in the case of a rig like mine it's mounted on the Brake Bell Crank Bracket, and hook it to the "B" terminal

The remaining terminal gets a short RG-6 Coax jumper to the LNB in on the receiver

now.. When you park under the evil signal eating tree.. You slap the switch fromn "A" (Which by the way means ABOVE) to "B" (Below or you may have noticed a plethora of "B" words in the connection placement list) and hook up your ground dish

Actually you hook up the ground dish THEN slap the switch

Reset the receiver and.. Aim around the obstruction.

We also are DirecTV customers and as long as there is nothing around to block the signal, we've never been in a place within the USA where we could not get a signal.

I will also ask another question

What channels are you looking for.. I mean if it's HBO or the DirecTV brag channel (100, 101 or 102, forget which) you should see it anywhere

if it is your local Channel 7 (or pick a number) you may simply be too far from home

Check for one of the "Cable" channels or better yet the DirecTV Brag (info) channels. Again, I think that's 102.. I can get it without even an account. In fact it's the only thing I can get without an account.
