A while back I was searching through here and found a campround up in the Black Hills/Mt Rushmore area, which I was thinking about going to this year. I lost the info after my PC crashed and burned and I am darned if I can find the same place after many searches.
I would be grateful for any recommendations for campgrounds in this area, and I will take a look at them all - again!
I posted a thread earlier in December about Rafter J Campground in the Black Hills area. Could that be the one?
Here is the link to Rafter J campground. Rafter J
We are planning a trip in late July 2010.
Here is the thread I posted 12/22/2009. HERE

Rafter J is real nice park. If you want full hookups,I would go there. But if you can get by for a few days with just electric,I would go to Custer State park.Beautiful setting, lots of wildlife, swimming, vistors centers, etc.Go here for more info:http://www.sdgfp.info/parks/Regions/Custer/Index.htm
I stayed at Custer State Park, and then drove to Mt. Rushmore. There are 4 tunnels along route 16, and each lines up directly with the monument. The first and fourth tunnels have a huge crowd around them, they do not know about the other 3 tunnels, so get out at the middle two tunnels to take pictures, less crowds.
When leaving Mt Rushmore, turn to the right, go about 1/4 mile to the small parking area, see a side profile of Washington, and get a quick picture, then move on so others can use the tiny lot.
There are caves in the area, and campgrounds within a short distance of the park.
If you posted a message on Rv Net it is easy to find. Click on your name, and you will see below is a list of things, including recent posts. Then you can click on that, and find all your posts for the past 12 months. You can refine that search by typing in rushmore, and probably only have 1-4 to look at.
If you click on Advanced Search here, then you can search everyone's post, and then narrow that down by searchign within results for what you are looking for. If the post is more than a year old, then you need to select the longer search, and that can add time and a tremendous amount of additional results to look through.
We stayed here, http://www.spokanecreekresort.com/
right on the northern edge of Custer State Park, not as fancy,(nor as costly) as Rafter J, but a nice quiet, convenient place,if you're out seeing the sites, you wont be in a Camp Ground much, anyways, and the Passport America price of $17.25 a night, is a lot easier on the wallet.

Really love Horse Thief Campground. located just off of Needles HWY. on the way to Custer SP. beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Next time we go to the BH`s we will be staying here. Hill City is a great central location for sightseeing in the Hills!
